The 250/9 would be a nice option in the upgrade pack..

That's one of the variants mentioned in Rubicon's first post.  It's certainly one I'd want to have.

I'd guess that the most popular variants (apart from the basic version) would be the SdKfz 250/3, SdKfz 250/7 and SdKfz 250/9.

I found this (unfortunately not very clear) photo of some Afrika Korps SdKfz 250 conversions.  The DAK seem to have modified many of their half-tracks.  I thought this might be interesting to other forum members who are looking forward to the SdKfz 250 kit as much as I am.

It looks good. I would have thought the sdkfz 250/9 armoured car would be more popular than the 253.

Will there be an option for the pistol port in the rear door?

The Military Vehicles In Detail 1 book written by Terry Gander (Ian Allan 2003) has a number of drawings and photographs, including views into the Ausf A and Ausf B sdkfz 250/6 hull for those who want to convert it. You will need a large number of ammunition boxes.

Besides its conventional WW2 usage, the sdkfz 253 would make a number Weird War 2 options, such combined with the Stuka zu Fuss launchers (I suspect the hull brackets will need scratch building). Now where are those air filters from the Tiger?

Here is the kind of jerry can rack I'd like to see included (preferably split into two rows for variety).  This is the PSC 1/72 scale SdKfz 250/9.

The jerry can rack will not be included on the standard 250 release, but will appear on the 250/3 expansion kit.

We draw and deliver... exactly what we'd drawn...  3D prototypes of the SdKfz 250/1 Alte and SdKfz 253!
Will be showing this first time to the public at Spiel 15, Essen, Germany!

Enjoy!

I haven't checked the details, but my initial impression is that this looks very accurate.  Some lovely detail there too - especially the interior.  So does this mean the initial kit is likely to be an SdKfz 250 + SdKfz 253?

One small point - are the engine hatches raised?  If so, they should be flush with the engine deck.

Here is the latest addition to our SdKfz 250 family... SdKfz 250/9!

The SdKfz 250/9 leichter Schützenpanzerwagen (2cm) is a reconnaissance variant with a 2cm KwK 38 autocannon and a coaxial MG (MG 34 or MG 42) in a low, open-topped turret identical to the SdKfz 222 armoured car.  This is going to be part of a planned 250/251 Expansion Kit for 2016.

Enjoy!

Were they used in Africa or were they too late?
Either way in going to need one for Normandie.

The SdKfz 250/9 Alte is good for N Africa and thereafter.  It used the "sockelaffette" turret, which was the same one used on SdKfz 222.

However, there is a "hangelafette" turret (not pedestal mounted but hanging from the turret) that was designed for the SdKfz 250/9 Neu, which was used on the SdKfz 251/23, SdKfz 234/1 and Aufklärer 38(t).  We are looking into doing the "hangelafette" version as well.

The SdKfz 250/9 wasn't used in North Africa.  However, the Alte version saw service in Normandy - there are several photos of them (mostly knocked out).  Most of the Alte vehicles were used on the Eastern Front.
