Panther Ausf, G - Operation Nordwind
« on: December 28, 2014, 09:42:41 am »
This is a 28mm Panther painted to represent one of 21st Panzer Divisions surviving tanks after the end of Operation Nordwind. The white winter camouflage has been dirtied and removed during combat operations.

The scheme is inspired by these 21st Panzer Panthers photographed near the Hagenau Forest in January 1945.

...have to say, dont like working in 28mm, I find it really hard work and im a little dissapointed with the end result.  Looking forward to some more civilised 20mm vehicles!

Nothing wrong with this one imho.
Maybe (!) it misses some depth around details, but that is quite hard to do on this scale on a white wash.

I really like it

WOW ! Great job on the chipping and paint . Those close ups look like the real thing . So what difficult part of the kit , paint job or build ? Can you really got it looking this good in 20 mm ?

Yep, can do same in 20mm...

28mm just dont work for WW2 for me. Its always 20mm for me. Couple of issues with the kit disappointed me a little, and I mean a little, its a very easy to build kit that works well.

Big P - I come from a background in 20mm too (back when it was was just Airfix, Fujimi and Matchbox).  I still feel that attraction of that scale, which is one reason I like seeing what you do with it.  But having tried 15mm (too fiddly), I've moved towards 28mm, and am finding it a good scale to work with - in part because my declining eyesight, but also because it's a wargaming scale, so I'm not always comparing what I do to stuff built out of etched metal and brass...

As I commented on your Dakka thread, I actually think your style is better suited to 28mm, because your chipping/rusting/streaking effects are (IMO) more 'in scale', whereas on the smaller scale it can look a bit overdone (the Churchill and Lloyd Carrier in your photo look very nice, but the Panzer III looks like an antique).

I've build the Rubicon Panther as well, but it's the Ausf D and not the Ausf G.  The Ausf D has some accuracy issues, but the basic kits goes together well.  I'd really like to see you tackle a couple more models in this scale.

I think you have a great talent and it shows, "20 mm or 1/56 you hit the nail spot on. I to like Pinky went from  20mm to 1/56 to spare the "Mark one eyeball" and the clumsy fingers  of 60 young.
Cheers both.
