SdKfz 250/1 Alte
« on: December 04, 2016, 05:16:09 pm »
My first Rubicon build.

Very nice kit, almost a "mini" Tamiya 1/48th 250 in some respects. In general the pluses - very accurate shape, lovely tracks and wheels (a bugbear of mine with 28mm models in general) very nice interior, a driver and comprehensive decal sheet. A couple of minor issues - the rifles on the inside top rack aren't up to the same detail as the rest of the interior, not too much of an issue but they are the most visible bit of the interior and I moved the headlights from the high radiator position to one of the more common mounting locations. I figure they were moulded up there for ease of assembly but they kept looking at me so I moved them. An MG42 as an option might have been nice too as one will have to be scrounged to make an Alte in later service, but that's not really a negative, just a nice to have.

Still got a few little things to add, aerial and might put an mg belt on the '34. Looking fwd to building a few other newer kits, got some Hetzers here which I may squeeze onto the bench just for fun ....

cheers
Brent

Great work on the 'Alte'.  The weathered desert scheme is very effective, and I love the attention to detail on the interior.  The jerrycan rack is also excellent.  This also currently one of my favourite Rubicon kits - although the forthcoming 'Neu' is going to be good as well.

You'll enjoy the Hetzer - it's one of Rubicon's best tank kits.

Thanks Pinky, was simple to build and simple to paint but still looks like a bigger scale kit - very enjoyable.

As for the Hetzers, not sure what I'm doing with those really. They were brought for a customers project that changed so I'm stuck with three. Might convert one into something and just play around with '46 style paint schemes just for something different.

Brilliant paint job, Air brush or hand, what a good result, nice little advert for the quality of this kit. A little gem of a surprise.

Lovely paintwork (as ever), look forward to what you do with the Hetzers (perhaps one of Heer46's Kugelblitz turrets to make a flak vesion?).

Thanks AB, brushed and yeah it's pretty hard to fault the kit, can't wait to get my mits on a Neu ....

Thanks matey :)   yeah that's certainly a neat option. Leaning towards just paint on two pretty much just for the painting exercise (always wanted to try the BMM late scheme) and thought I might give this a crack as a '46 APC ....
