VW Type 1 (Beetle) - TS1 Painted 190528
« on: December 05, 2018, 12:27:04 pm »
A quick project that we had missed posting...  The VW Type 1 (Beetle)!

This is going to be a plastic kit with a multi-slide mould body, not too many parts to go with it!

The prototype...

Enjoy!

What an interesting choice and surprise for a 1:56 (28mm) plastic kit. You do not see a lot of combat photos of these, so I will need to do some reseach into how common these were on the battlefield.

That being said, I still can't wait to see the Kubel and Schwim plastic model kits.

Why is this anywhere near the top of the list?  There are many more useful and important vehicles than this that could have been given the plastic treatment.

This is basically an engineering & production decision.  The Beetle is a quick spinoff from the Kubelwagen as we need a "filler" to complete a multi-slide mould (which contains several projects).  There is nothing on our current projects that require a slot, hence a quick Beetle project which only took us about 10 working days from start to finish...  There is nothing fancy about the Beetle, just a filler project.

As part of the Kübelwagen extension, here is the TS #1 plastic sprue... inspected and test assembled!

Enjoy!

The Beetle looks very nice!

I understand that this was a "filler" project to complete a multi-slide mould (which contains several projects), but if it doesn't sell well, will this discourage this practice in the future?

As an example, I plan on getting at least three Kübelwagen kits, but if I order the Beetle kit, I will most likely only order one

I think a more useful German 'filler' project would have been a staff car.  It could have been done with the same number of parts.

We had reference material for the VW Beetle on hand, so we used it as a "filler".  Furthermore, we can see uses for this kit for wargaming or modelling from 1938 to 2038!  It's a lovely period piece for WW2, but given the lifetime and worldwide popularity of the "Bug", it would also work on a modern or future sci-fi project easily.  Many customers see great potential for road-warrior type conversions or just rusted out street furniture...  It is also a great kit for us to branch out of the WW2 period and reach out to other customer groups.
