Wish Lists / Re: Panzer 38t/Marder

There's a lot of differences between Pz38t and Marders, and let's not even speak of Hetzer (widened hull)...

But, there are particular variants of these vehicles, that would not only by feasible to squeeze into one box, but also be varying in purpose they served.

I'm speaking of Marder III M, FlakPanzer 38t Gepard, and Grille ausf. M.

All three would use the same lower hull and suspension, only dffering in superstructure and armament.

I'm not saying that these were almost identical, they were in fact not. But if we want a kit with more than one variant of Pz38t chassis in it, then this is the way to go, these were very similar to each other.

Work In Progress / Re: Proposed Project: Tiger II
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:05:02 am »
I agree, that Tiger II is not the most needed German AFV at the moment. Sure it's a beautiful tank, but it doesn't really see much action on tabletops. In my opinion Jagdpanzer IVs or Marder IIIs would be far better idea, and they would sell better (sure they're a bit less iconic than Tiger II, but they see much more action in wargames), so I voted that there is no need for a Tiger II as for now.

But if I had to choose which variant of Tiger II to produce, I'd go with the zimmerit-lacking variant. Factory-made zimmerit doesn't look satisfactory for a modeller, and gamers don't really give a damn about having it or not :P . So the Henschel Tiger II would be great straight out of the box (as they rarely had zimmerit), while the Porsche variant would require a little bit of work from a modeller's perspective, but still be usable for both modeller and gamer. Also please don't forget that those Tigers not only had different turrets, but also wheels!

The idea that Pinky presented is genius! I second that as much as I can!

Having decal sets for (example) Normandy, Kursk, Sicily or something like that would be awesome. And I don't think anybody does sets like that already, so there's a niche for it.

Indeed, the older decagonal turret was used only on SdKfz 222 and SdKfz 250/9 (alt). The new hexagonal turret though, was mounted on most of the vehicles you mentioned, like SdKfz 234/1, SdKfz 250/9 (neu), SdKfz 251/23, SdKfz 140/1.

In this case I have to admit I must have been ill informed. It's just, most of the StuGs I've seen had this "Early" or "May 43" muzzle break type (names according to your diagram). Still, not to be picky, but the presented L/48 muzzle break doesn't look satisfactory in my opinion. I can see it resembles the Late type (vide your diagram), but these protrunding sections, look bulgy, instead of sharp.

And on the 105mm topic, I admit I didn't know the "leFH 18M" type appeared on the StuH, but still to me the most 'typical' was the large one, described by you as the "Mid production". Wouldn't it be a good idea to go with the most standard muzzle break type, instead of a rare one, that from what I understand, appeared on a handful of, if not less, StuHs?

In summary, the presented Late 75mm muzzle break looks too bulgy in my opinion, but as longs (as you say you will) as you include other 75mm types (preferably the "Early" or "May 43"), I'll be perfectly happy. Also, the decision on 105mm muzzle break type is quite surprising (I'm talking about the particular shape you decided to go with), but as you said, we can just cut it off, and make a muzzle break-less variant, so it's all good in that case.

Rubicon,
I just noticed it and I have a question regarding the presented muzzle breaks.

the L\43 I have no problem with, but the L\48 looks kind of off. It should something like that

or that

While the one you have currently on presented test StuG, appears to be like a hybrid of both (I'm talking about a unnecessary "bulge" on the front section of it).

Also muzzle break on the 105mm howitzer seems to be also incorrect. It would be great for a field leFH 18 howitzer, but not for the vehicle mounted variant. It should be more like an oversized Tiger's muzzle break, like here

Not to mention late StuHs had no muzzle breaks at all, so that's another option.

Anyway, is it possbile for you to fix that?
I hope my post makes at least a bit sense. Current muzzle breaks are not a major flaw, but they are kinda annoying once you notice them being incorrect.

People tend to complain even when handed flawless product on a gold plate, so I wouldn't worry that much Rubicon ;)

StuGs are beautiful, it is THE kit I was waiting for! Best Christmas Ever! Thank you so much, can't wait when these beauties hit the shops!

I agree completely!

Although I never said it was the most universal or best-for-the-job armoured car of German Army. I only said that there were a lot of these built, and saw service throughout the whole war. Sure the later the war, the less of them saw action, and there were better vehicles developed (234 series), but still the versatility is what speaks for this car. And that is the reason I think it would be a good move for Rubicon, as their models have to, no matter how gorgeous or niche they are, simply sell. And I can't imagine it not selling (although I might be wrong, as I said earlier I'm not an expert on miniatures market, but that is for Rubicon to determine).

So Rubicon, what do you think about that?

Hey, I'd like to suggest something else really.

As far as tanks are awesome, not only them were part of the battlefield. So I would like to plant an idea of doing a vehicle that saw service through the whole war, on every front. It also was quite small, so I have a feeling you guys at Rubicon could fit it on like two sprues.

What am I talking about? Why, SdKfz 222 of course.

- There were a lot of this biult, and it is also very well documented, so finding data, dimensions etc. should be on the easier side.
- Pretty much everyone needs this vehicle, wether it is a modeller who wants to make a diorama with this popular armoured car, or a gamer, needing a reconaissance vehicle in his army. I admit i'm not an expert on the market, but common sense hints it would sell really good (especially if you guys would indeed fit it in 2 sprues, thus reducing the cost compared to wonderful tank kits you already make).
- You could make more than just a 222 with almost no changes. Making SdKfz. 223 and 260 would require different vehicle's top and a new MG turret (for 223), and that's it. Still the 222 should be a main focus as vast majority of people would like just that, not a weird comms variant.
- No one does an SdKfz. 222 in plastic, and it doesn't seem someone would start soon. So there's a niche.

I know at this point you guys have far more German vehicles released, than any other nation's, but please consider this cute little armoured car, as for reasons stated above, I think it would be a good move on your side.

Nonetheless, Im very grateful for what you guys done so far, please keep up the good - wait no - fantastic work :)
Cheers, pmbk out!
