Title: M3 Gun Motor Carriage
Post by: Tracks on June 11, 2018, 09:16:58 pm
Has anyone looked into or has used Rubicon Models' M3 Half Track (kit# 280027) to make an M3 Gun Motor Carriage?

Except for the 75mm gun, I'm thinking it would be an easy conversion. I was just wondering if anyone has already started or had already completed such a project.

A buddy using the Rubicon kit and a BA 57mm gun kit to make a T48 GMC  of which the British had about 700 . IRC , Russia got some as well

I tried this conversion in 1/35 scale many years ago - it's not that straightforward as you need a full 75mm and the gun shield is a complex shape.  The M3 interior was revised too.  I was hoping Rubicon would do one.

Ripley - the T48 GMC was built for the British, but by the time it was produced they didn't want any.  So only 30 went to the British (and got converted back into standard half-tracks).  650 went to the Red Army, as the SU-75.  Another variant I would have liked Rubicon to do.

Would be a nice and relatively easy resin expansion kit for Rubicon to make.

I could use some of those for Canadians in Italy and NWE!

The 57mm version could be a development of the hoped for six pounder project, a reverse of the PaK 36 project.

Any chance you could release a series of Israeli half track variants, either as complete kits or conversion kits?

I was surprised by the appearance of the M3/M3A1 GMC, so I guess that something like an Israeli variant would be possible, but not sure how long it will take if they decide to start such a project. Also, how hard would it be to convert one of the RM half-track into an Israeli variant?

For more information about RM's M3/M3A1 GMC, have a look at this link:

I thought that Israeli tracks were based on the M5 version which they got from Ex British stock ?
