Title: T17E1 Staghound - Mk II added 210417
Post by: Rubicon Models on October 31, 2019, 12:01:23 am
Because of some busy event this coming Friday (Nov 1), we will not be able to update our "NEW Project of the Month" on time... so here it is now, a day early!

The T17E1 Armoured Car was an American armoured car design produced during WW2.  It never saw service with frontline US forces but was supplied, via the United Kingdom, to British and Commonwealth forces during the war and received the service name "Staghound".  A number of countries used the Staghound after the war, with some of the vehicles continuing to serve into the 1980s.  A total of 4,094 were produced.

Wow this is great news , love the Staghound .  FYI . the hatches on the Crusader turret had a few modifications when added to the Stag , so a wee bit of kit bashing will be needed to make a proto vehicle . David Doyle Books has a great volume on the Stag , lots of factory and in combat photos plus some interior pics of a restored Stag . I have this book in my library . I recommend it highly

We are aware of the minor changes to the Crusader hatches on the turret, we have not done the additional variants yet.  Will see how it goes.  We also have several books on the Staghound which we find very useful as well.  ;)

I figured you knew that . Just passing some info , as well as recommending an informative , fairly  low cost book ( on sale $20 S ) on the the guys who haunt the forum . Of course shipping might break you . lol

Exciting news, hopefully the fuel tanks are easily removed (or magnetized) and replaced with empty racks or stowage bins.  Some suggestions for your decal sheet would be the Inns of Court (well, any of the armoured car regiments attached/working with armoured divisions) and the 18th armoured car regiment 12th manitoba dragoons (especially relevant to the mk III)

I'll buy one of these for sure, if it was a Daimler I would have (and still will) bought three.

We are now officially in a race, you try and get this kit on the shelves, and I'll clear my paint que and get to carving up my resin blitzkrieg kit.

Nice. Interesting choice.

Definite buy.

Though a Daimler armoured car would be nice (as would a  Dingo).

Nice. Interesting choice.
The Staghound continues to serve into the 1980s (for example, the Arab-Israeli war in 1948 and the Lebanon crisis in 1958) which makes a better choice than the Daimler or the Dingo as our first Allies armoured car.  We probably will do some more as we move along.

Not the line of reasoning I would have chosen, but that's why you make the kits and I just buy them.

This makes me fully "that guy" but I can't resist pointing out this is actually your second Allied armoured car.
It's an understandable mistake, it's been ages since the last one was released.

What a wonderful kit to look forward to.
Will the Mark I have a choice of gun barrels?  37mm or Howitzer?

Third isn’t it? Greyhound is out. M3 Scout car is between test shot and production, and now this one...

I wasn't counting the M3, though it is literally a "car" with armour....

Regardless can't wait for that kit, the updated .30cals and HQ potential in the radio car add on kit have me drooling.

A nice meaty choice for an allied A/C. Apart from a mkI and mkII there is a possibility of an AA version. I have been looking on www.warwheels.net as there are some good images of the Staghound.
If you like armoured cars then this site may interest you.
Personally I would like too see in the future a Humber mkI,II,III and IV.

We are revisiting the long-lost British Staghound project.  The project had not been forgotten, just stowed away for the right moment to relaunch... and NOW is the time!

The Staghound project has been revived, redesigned, and upgraded to a full PLASTIC kit... a 4-in-1 kit to cover the T17E1 Mk I (with or without Tulip), the T17E1 Mk III and the T17E2 AA.

3D prototypes will follow soon... then mould making!

The Belgian army in 1944 (Brigade Piron ) used the MK1 and the t17. Also with a bit of work the tulip can be used for another sherman conversion.

The final missing piece of our Staghound project is here... the T17E1 Mk II.

The Mk II was a field conversion that had a 3-inch howitzer Mk 1 for close support mounted in place of the 37mm gun in the turret.  The bow machine gun was removed.  These were issued to the Armoured Car HQ section.

Another great choice. You mention several times that it continued to serve into the 80's in foreign forces so once again I am asking if you could include appropriate decals.

With all variants available I look forward to this release.
I've been looking since it was announced...years ago.
Surely it's ready for this Spring release!

Any word on the Staghounds release ? I've got a couple of great books for research purposes ...

(https://i.postimg.cc/xNS3yW3p/Wings-Wheels-Pub.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/xNS3yW3p)

Hopefully the decals will include both Polish and Canadian units that used the Staghound
