Work In Progress / Re: Panzer II Plastic TS1 Primed 200810
« on: March 19, 2021, 11:41:59 am »
These were announced sometime ago, and it looks like they are almost done.
Does anyone know what the projected release dates are for the SdKfz 10 and the Panzer II plastic kits?

If Rubicon Models produced a PzKpfw35(t), it would be a great kit.

However, we already have a pretty good plastic kit of the PzKpfw38(t), which was even more widely used than the PzKpfw35(t), so if you ask me, my wish is for an SU-76, M3 Medium (Lee/Grant), Humber AC, and a ZiS-3 AT gun kit before a PzKpfw35(t) kit.

By the way  Tracks your puma modification is really great. :)

Thank you. Nice of you to say.  :)

As for having an SdKfz 234/3, well, like ripley, I plan to also use the Rubicon expansion kit to make an SdKfz 234/3. I have an extra expansion kit just for this purpose.

I am very happy with Rubicon Models' SdKfz 222, and should they release an SdKfz 232 plastic model kit, well, I certainly wouldn't say no to it. However, is there a reason to have a second plastic model kit of an SdKfz 234? Regardless, I would much rather see Rubicon Models release a plastic model kit of the M3 Medium Tank (Lee/Grant), SU-76, and Soviet AT-Gun long before they do a plastic model kit of the SdKfz 234.

Here is a Italeri/Rubicon SdKfz 234/1 kit-bash.

Some modelling skill is needed because the Rubicon Models turret works best if you do some simple modifications. For example, I removed the bottom ring protrusion and moved the "L" hooks inward for a proper fit. I also added curved tabs to the front and back to keep the turret centered and to keep it from shifting.

Alternatively, you can modify the hull to fit the turret, but by modifying the turret, I was still able to use the original 234/2 turret. By doing this, I can easily switch turrets thereby giving me the option to have either a SdKfz 234/1 or a SdKfz 234/2.

Wish Lists / Re: WWII british armored car humber mk IV

I second this!  8)

In fact, as British armored cars go, the Humber armored car would be an excellent choice, but for some reason there has been talk for the American built T17 Staghound (used by the British), which is a late war armored car. However, the Humber armored car would be a far better choice for several reasons already mentioned.

Just as emmanuel pointed out, the Humber was one of the most widely produced and used armored cars in the British Army, and saw combat with the British and Commonwealth from 1941 until 1945 - and maybe post war as well.

Also, and important to note,  the Guy armored car from 1939 to 1940 was the predecessor of the Humber Mark I, and these two armored cars have so many of the same features that I don't think it would be at all difficult for Rubicon Models to work their magic and create a Humber + Guy kit. That is, a plastic model kit that could be assembled to make the Humber Mk.I, II, III, IV or Guy armored car. That would be just fantastic wouldn't you agree?! A single plastic model kit that could assembled into an armored car that was used from 1939 to 1945.

This would also fill in a void in a lot of gamer/model collections since there are no good plastic model kits for a good British/Commonwealth armored car. Especially a significant one like the Humber.

That being said, it is easier to say than to do because to be honest, even though they all look like they have common features, and it looks like it would be possible to make an all-in-one plastic kit, it of course depends on the much finer details.

I've never seen a picture of any T-34 variant carrying spare wheels

I don't recall seeing any photos of this either, but I have seen several photos showing mismatched road wheels on T-34s. But the stowage set only gives you one of each. This is something we can sorta do anyway with RM's regular T-34/76 and T-34/85 kits - carefully cut out and mismatch some of the road wheels.

Any chance you could release a series of Israeli half track variants, either as complete kits or conversion kits?

I was surprised by the appearance of the M3/M3A1 GMC, so I guess that something like an Israeli variant would be possible, but not sure how long it will take if they decide to start such a project. Also, how hard would it be to convert one of the RM half-track into an Israeli variant?

For more information about RM's M3/M3A1 GMC, have a look at this link:

Nice  :)

It also puts an end to this project  8)

The M3 GMC is still being a resin/pewter conversion kit with a plastic M3 half-track frame, a plastic 75mm gun, and resin gun shield, half-track hull, etc.

I get the impression this will be an all-in-one kit, but better ask anyway. Will this be a conversion kit for the half-track kit, or an all-in-one kit with half-track plus the conversion bits?

A 61-K 37mm AA gun M1939 would be nice, but I really hope that a ZiS-3 AT gun, SU-76, T-70 and even a BA-64 comes first. But all five of these items would be nice to see on the gaming table. What would your list be by priority? My list would be:

#1 - ZiS-3 AT gun and SU-76 (hint: the SU-76 used the ZiS-3 AT gun;)
#2 - BA-64 and T-70
#3 - T-28 and BT-7
#4 - 37mm AA gun M1939
#5 - T-35 and ISU-122/152

Originally a RESIN project, but we had turned it into a plastic kit.

Fantastic choice... power to the plastic!

I can't wait to get some of these.

Yes, I know that plastic is not good for the environment, but that side effect is because of irresponsible people. Most if not all of the modellers/gamers I know recycle their plastic sprues/bits and not just toss it into the fields, oceans, and rivers. And when I say recycle, I'm talking about using the plastic sprue and extra bits to make other things and/or making sure they go into the recycling bins to be recycled.

I have noticed that the "News" link on the home page has not been updated since "06 Feb, 2019", but I am guessing that the SdKfz.10 plastic kit is very close to being released. However, if it helps, it is okay for Rubicon Models to send me a kit to "Test" and check to see that everything is perfect, but also include the final draft of the kit's instructions so I can look for any typos and/or oversights.  ;)

thunderplunk, you said, "it'd be great to have some artillery pieces, especially with the STZ tractors in the works."

Have a look at the image below. Two STZ tractors!

I also would like to see Rubicon Models release some Soviet AT-guns. Especially the ZiS-3 gun.

I think the T-70 and BA-64 are also great choices. As would the SU-76, but it might not be a straight chassis carry over from the T-70 since I think the SU-76 used a lengthened T-70 chassis. I will have to double check this. Regardless, I believe Rubicon Models would have no trouble in creating a very nice plastic T-70 kit and a very nice plastic SU-76 kit. By the way, the SU-76 mounted the ZiS-3. Hint, hint.  ;)

Because this thread is in some small way related to an older request, have a look at this thread:

I wonder if it is at all possible to convince Rubicon Models to replace the BA-20 with a BA-64 instead. Or at least produce the BA-64 before they produce the BA-20.

Rubicon Models already produces very nice plastic model kits of the BA-3/6 and BA-10, so maybe it is time for the BA-64? Even though the BA-6 and BA-10 stayed in service (even after production stopped), the Soviet army started to replace the BA-6, BA-10, and BA-20 with the BA-64. With over 9,000 BA-64s being manufactured, the BA-64 was one of the most produced Soviet armored cars for the Soviet army, and the BA-64 was used until the end of the war and for a short after.
