Wish Lists / M103 Marine Heavy Tank
« on: January 23, 2021, 07:28:14 am »
So when the Marines were sent to Vietnam no one told them to not bring tanks.
They brought the M103 Heavy Tank the US Army decided not to use anymore.

So along with M48s, M60s, M88, M113A1, the M108/109 SPA and M107/M110 SPA the M103 would be a pretty cool tank to build.

And speaking of the M107 howitzer who wouldn't like to have a 175mm howitzer on call for artillery support.
The hull is also useful for the M578 light recovery vehicle.

I've never heard of the M79 called a "blooper".  Thump Gun or Grenade Launcher, sure.  I served post Vietnam so the M79 had already been replaced with M203.
The sculpts look great and I'm pleased the USMC and US Army figures will be interchangeable.
The do need more canteens and bandeliers.

For me the M3 and M7 lead to the M12, a bunker busting self propelled 155mm howitzer.

Another wonderful model to look forward to.
The Trim Vane should have the arm connected to it to hold it out in the deployed mode.  The piece between the engine hatch and left side light assembly.  I know CAD isn't always dynamic.  In my experience having the Trim Vane deployed for amphibious operations was exceptionally rare, it was most often used as a place to store gear since internally with a squad riding inside this "battle taxi" there wasn't much space.
'Nam style would also include rolls of constantina wire as well as chain link fence set up when dug in to stop RPG attacks.
Then gear.  There has to be a plan for all the potential gear which was piled on this Track when it went to the field.

Again, looking forward to this kit.

I have used a similar product to fix porcelain.  Years later the repair still works.
I haven't used that particular one though.

One thing I look forward in people miniatures is consistency of weapons.  People come in many sizes and colors.  A rifle, such as the AKM or M14 should be the same whether carrier by an American soldier, South Vietnamese regular or Viet Cong.   So the weapons available to the female Viet Cong figures should be exactly the same in scale as those for the Male Viet Cong figures.

That was very nice.  Good to see what will be coming.  Also sparked the imagination on what could be done with this kit.
Or more accurately KITS.  Must have more than one.

That is exceptional!
2 curved fronts, many variations possible, impeccable details, this will be a great addition to my collection.

Put a T-34/85 turret on the chassis and you have a T-44.
This is a dandy addition to the Rubicon Models stable of vehicles.  Besides Vietnam the Middle East and Africa conflicts are now in play.
Excellent detail and build options.

Interesting.  The women appear large for Vietnamese in comparison to the weapons.
The men of the mortar team look well fed.
imho.

Crew and seated soldiers coming too?
Then a BTR-152?

As far as size comparison the weapon scale should be the same.  An M16 in a Marines hands would be the same size as an M16 in an ARVN soldiers hands.

Vietnam starts off with French forces using old WWII equipment and the North Vietnamese using Soviet stuff first seen in Korea.  Very heavy infantry and indigenous forces focused with Armor used occasionally.  Trucks, jeeps, civilian vehicles of many types along with animals.
Then again, early WWII in the Pacific....
