While the factory is putting final touches on our Q1/15 plastic moulds, and our studio staff working on our Q2/15 projects; the not-so-talented is working on a new range of waterslide decals. Beginning with the German Panzer Division sets.
The basic divisions are now all done:

All markings and symbols are redrawn from scratch for clarity and accuracy purposes. Because the actual size of these symbols will be very small (about 3 mm in size), some fine lines are exaggerated otherwise will not even shown up on the decal. Here are some of the more colorful and more detailed markings:

The next step will be trying to arrange them into groups to create a decal sets for various Panzer Divisions (PD). Initial idea is something like these:

Was considering by war years or by theater or by branch of services... but don't seem to work out easily. Still experimenting with different arrangements... Any suggestions?

These look good! I like the fact that you've redesigned them to work better in small scale.
It's hard to group them sensibly. I'd say that most people will want the markings for one or two divisions, so you'd be looking at a separate decal sheet for each formation. That seems a bit crazy in terms of packaging etc. There will also be formations that are more popular than others, so perhaps you shouldn't try to cover all of them.
A wargamer is going to want several sets of markings for one formation. Perhaps you could package them for specific campaigns. You could provide (say) 5 decal sheets, each one with several signs for a particular formation. So, Normandy would have decal sheets for Panzer Lehr, 21st Panzer, 116th Panzer, 12th SS Panzer and 504 Heavy Tank Battalion. You could also have a set of decal sheets for units that fielded a particular tank (like Tiger battalions and StuG brigades). I'd assume you'd want to focus on vehicles that Rubicon produces...

The idea that Pinky presented is genius! I second that as much as I can!
Having decal sets for (example) Normandy, Kursk, Sicily or something like that would be awesome. And I don't think anybody does sets like that already, so there's a niche for it.

Had been playing with different arrangements, don't seems to fit all the symbols onto each decal evenly. Finally decided to go back to our original design... lay them out by Division or Battalion numbers!
Here are the results... SIX waterslide decals (105mm x 74mm) in total, with over 100 symbols per sheet!

Some symbols still needed to do some touch up work as they had become barely readable as the line width are being scaled down too thin! Still not happy with the need to put the "Hermann Goring" division under the "Heavy Panzer Battalion" decal sheet, but there is no room in the other sheets... There need to be at least 3mm space between symbols for the "transparent" film to be printed onto the symbol during the manufacturing process.
C&C welcome!

These are still work in progress, probably in March. We have no room left for the DAK palm emblems. However, we are working on a new sheet especially for the Africa campaign (40-43). Keep checking back for an update post!

Looking very cool chaps keep it up

As promised, here is the preview of the African Campaign decal set. Due to decal layout production issues, we might not be able to fit this set into our current run...

Oooh, goodie! Lots of little lovely palm trees ;D

What i can tell you so far is that you will for sure cant ship both sets to Germany. The "Hakenkreuz" is a banned Symbol in Germany. Other companys who sell scalemodelkits in Germany have to cut out the banned Symbols from the decalsheets in Order to ship the kits to Germany .......
-
Beautyful in the Africa you should add the 90th lt division...

We are aware of that, but we simply cannot penalized customers from other countries for not having them! :(
In fact, we have seen German decal manufacturers making all sorts of banned WW2 symbols in Germany, and these decal sheets are sold on their online store too! This might not be totally legal, but...

Great work on decals any idea what will be price? Also do you plan make some online guides what type of decals is going where on tank or other type of vehicle ? Also do you plan also to include some general decals in boxed sets? With some sets of numbers , vehicle kill markings and Balkenkreuz ?

Decals are coming on grand, your attention to detail in both the kits and the support items is refreshing in this age. Quality will always pay.
Cheers.

We have just updated our WEBSITE (www.rubiconmodels.com) to include soon-to-be-release waterslide decals. Some were included with existing plastic kits, now sold separately; majority are newly design sets for both Axis and Allies.

A lot of people had been asking for the availability of our Waterslide Decal Sheets that had been on our website without a release date.
The wait is now almost over! We are working on the packaging and these decals will soon be available for sales over the counter!

Hi, These transfers look superb.
I have just started a German force and am needing decals.
Unfortunately, we are wanting to put on a Villers Boccage game and have 4 of your Tigers ready to go but have no suitable decals.
No one seems to do any 28mm decals for Wittmans unit 101/501 SS pz-abt.
Is there any chance of maybe doing a sheet that covers this.
As most other units are already covered maybe you could do a single Michael Wittman sheet with Tank numbers and markings for some of his tanks.
In the mean time i wil get some of your other sheets to get me started on the other AFVs.
Cheers
Tim

Originally, we do have plans to produce a decal sheet for SS Heavy Panzer Battalions based on the following info:
- 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion renamed in 1944, as SS Heavy Panzer Battalion 501, part of I SS Panzer Corps
- 102nd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion renamed in 1944, as SS Heavy Panzer Battalion 502, part of II SS Panzer Corps
- 103rd SS Heavy Panzer Battalion renamed in 1944, as SS Heavy Panzer Battalion 503, part of III (Germanic) SS Panzer Corps
- 104th SS Heavy Panzer Battalion was planned 22 October 1943, for IV SS Panzer Corps, but was never formed
However, only Wittman's unit, the 101/501 SS PzAbt had insignia information available, plus there is a minimum production quantity for each decal sheet. Therefore, this is now put on-hold until something come up in the near future.
-
What about unit-painted names for tanks like "Siegfried" oder "Martha", if space on the sheets remains?

The other units you mention are well documented. "Tigers in Combat II" has full unit histories of all of them, and details of camo and markings, and Restayn's Tiger I books have more photos and information.

Thanks for the pointer. Will look these up when we have the time. ;)
