M32 ARV (Rubicon M4A3E8 conversion)
« on: May 04, 2017, 02:28:56 am »
So with a company of Shermans, I need an M32 recovery tank. As far as I'm aware no one makes one in 1:56 scale, so I asked a friend of mine who's much better at scratch building (he makes stuff for JTFM currently) to make me one.

I am honestly stunned at what he did over the bank holiday weekend!

I collect it at the end of the month, so will get it painted as soon as possible.

This is a great conversion, as I said in the other thread you posted it in.  Getting this kind of shape right takes real skill.

Work begins! Used a PSC US armour spray for the base coat.

I used to use Vallejo and and airbrush for base coating, but effort level of cleaning my airbrush loses over cost of spray!

Decided not to put any extra stowage on it, as Richard did such a great job and I didn't want to cover any of it up!

Paint job looks great . Really hard to decide to add  stowage to such a nice build . Maybe have the gear removable , so you can still have it look like the rest of your platoon , but still look cherry in your display case .

That's a very nice finish.  I prefer the colour to the Vallejo Olive Drab (it looks less brown in these photos).

As always, the undercoat has revealed a few gaps and glue blobs.  It might be worth dealing with them now.

I would add some stowage because US tanks always have it

I used to use Vallejo and and airbrush for base coating, but effort level of cleaning my airbrush loses over cost of spray!

I gave up airbrushing for that reason.  Although I never reached anything like the level of ability of many airbrush users.

I'll still airbrush the next 4 layers before the wash.

I did think about stowage and I know the yanks piled on as much as possible, but it is a gaming piece and not a display piece, plus I'd rather (in this instance) see the model underneath.
