Wish Lists / Daimler Dingo
« on: February 21, 2017, 01:04:28 am »
This has been mentioned before, in lists and as a combo with the larger Lynx.

I mention it as it has turned up on prime time Sunday night viewing on the BBC.

As a very long lived vehicle, it is useful for British and Commonwealth forces, and was also used by German forces.

General Discussions / Post war French Panthers
« on: February 12, 2017, 06:50:24 pm »
The French Army used Panthers post war (one might have got as far as Indochina).

Does anyone know what colour they were painted?

I was thinking of getting a Panther A and utilising some of the French decals.

I do need to get another Panther G for a Cuckoo clone.

If you are in the UK, The Works (suppliers of cheap books, hobby supplies and tat) have a number of the Haynes Manuals cheap.

Of particular note is the Tiger Tank book:

Interesting photographs of the restoration of Tiger 131.

Wish Lists / Soviet Stowage
« on: January 05, 2017, 06:38:36 pm »
There must be a lot of Soviet specific stowage.

Besides various ammunition boxes, rocket boxes would be good for stowing on the rear mudguards of the Studebaker (there are photographs of them in the Tankograd Studebaker book).

Bedframe spaced armour might be useful. Both sprues could be used to equip one tank.

Replacement fuel drums (based on the improved ones from the tank destroyer kit).

Skis?

Snow shoes?

Wish Lists / Allied Stowage set 2 wishlist
« on: January 04, 2017, 06:11:51 pm »
Having combined AN Other's Sherman kit with Rubicon's stowage, these are some of my wish list items for a second Allied Stowage set:

Individual Sherman track pieces to be combined on the turret.

Three link spare track rack for the Sherman glacis

Tools, specifically those for Shermans including the big tension wrench thing.

Water bottles, individual and in groups.

Small arms ammo boxes.

British tanker helmets

Fire extinguishers

Tank and artillery rounds including the tubes.

Smoke mortar (external fitting)

Smoke dischargers (pair).

Spare track unit for M5 for rear of hull

Churchill track links (and the late model Churchill to go with it) again for use as add on armour

Replacement M5 grousers to replace moulded detail (also usable on the M5 derived tractor)

I am sure I have missed other useful stuff (I also would like a Panzerschreck box to go on a command tank, but that is for the German Stowage wish list).

General Discussions / Panfilov's 28 Men (film)
« on: November 24, 2016, 03:59:58 pm »
Just watched this item from the BBC's website (if you are not in the UK, you should be able to search for it on BBC.com):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38083603

As a film, the vehicles certainly look the part, no idea if it is clever CGI, cut and shut FV432s or original tanks.

I guess the half-tracks are Czech OT810s.

Wish Lists / Loyd Carrier
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:40:23 pm »
The mention of a Commonwealth troop carrier on the half track passenger thread made me think that a Loyd carrier to tow the future Commonwealth AT guns and carry troops might be useful.

It would make a change from universal carriers.

Wish Lists / SDKFZ 2 Kettenkraftrad
« on: July 15, 2016, 10:59:42 pm »
I cannot remember if anyone has asked for this yet.

It is iconic, multi-period and if I ask for it now it might be available as a kit when "The Nightmare Stacks" comes out in paperback where one of them is rumoured to have a role.

Wish Lists / Jagdpanther
« on: June 30, 2016, 03:15:41 pm »
I am (slowly) putting the Panther Ausf G together (now ready for priming) and while looking at the chassis I wondered about a J sprue for the Jagdpanther?

Could you get the rest of the kit on a single sprue?

I am assuming the chassis is the same.

General Discussions / British M5A1
« on: April 26, 2016, 01:05:38 am »
Possibly the next kit for me to build is the M5A1.

To match up with my Sherman I unit, I am going to paint it up as a Guards' armoured division vehicle.

Now, did the reconnaissance squadron in each battalion of the Guards' Armoured division have Stuart's?

I have seen photographs of M5A1s labeled as Irish Guards and a colour plate (British Tanks In Normandy) of the same. I have also seen a photograph of an M3A3 (I think) for the Grenadier Guards.

Now did the Grenadier Guards use M5A1s in Normandy?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

Showcase & Gallery / UVS models: Salute 2021 11/12/2020
« on: September 03, 2015, 04:01:13 pm »
Hi,

This is my first table ready Rubicon kit and my first post.

The vehicle id is based on the Abteitung 508 format, and I think the smoke dischargers are wrong for a late war Tiger.

Oh, and someone has started to clean the first outer wheel, not sure why.

A Crooked Dice William Killen for scale.

Now once I have the German stowage set I can finish the M4A3.
