Project of the Month - Feb 2021 - M551 Sheridan 210201
« on: February 01, 2021, 02:47:49 pm »
New Project of the Month for Feb 2021 is the US M551 Sheridan Light Tank

While we have stated it will be a resin/pewter kit, we might turn this into a plastic kit if there is enough demand for this light tank.

The M551 "Sheridan" AR/AAV (Armored Reconnaissance/Airborne Assault Vehicle) was a US light tank. It was designed to be landed by parachute and to swim across rivers. It was armed with an M81/M81E1 152mm gun/launcher, which fired both conventional ammunition and the MGM-51 Shillelagh guided anti-tank missile. The M551 Sheridan entered US Army service in 1967 and was rushed into combat service in Vietnam in January 1969. In April and August 1969, M551s were deployed to units in Europe and South Korea, respectively. Now retired from service, it saw extensive combat in the Vietnam War, and limited service in Operation Just Cause in Panama, and the Persian Gulf War in Kuwait.  A total of 1,662 were built.

Enjoy!

Plastic is fantastic ....for my part it will be plastic please :)
IMO you will have  more demand for plastic than for pewter.  it could be counter productive to begjn your cold war area list kit offer by resin and pewter . I know you are uncertain on the demand but you will be able to assess it by the amount of M113 sold as a proxy for the demand of a US light tank need for gamers and others.
In any cases I would not have certainly bought seven panzer IV if you had sold them in pewter.....In other words thanks for this news but in my case i will buy it only in plastic ( in that case at least four of them).

I concur with Emanuel. I will buy several of these if they are produced in plastic. I know it is a risk to be the first to produce something new but I believe the direction you are taking will inevitably produce positive benifits for your company. I am now solely a modeller but I used to be a wargamer and if there is one thing you can say about most wargamers it is that they will usualy be looking for some new area to expand into. Given that even the most dyed in the wool WW2 gamers will eventually tire of Tigers and Shermans it makes sense to diversify. It is my fervent hope that you will continue to expand your Korean/Middle East/Vietnam war series and that such a policy will benefit you massively.

Wouldn't  a M-48 Patton tank be a better choice than a M-551 Sheridan for your first U.S. Vietnam War in plastic? In addition,it was used by many other countries after the Vietnam War.

On the RM's facebook almost all the comments for the sheridan ask for a plastic one. As far as I am concerned , all the cold war wishes I have posted are for plastic kits : T62, M48, M60, T72. In any cases I am ok to have the sheridan and the M48 both in plastic :) .
