General Discussions / BTR-60PA and BTR-60PB
« on: January 18, 2023, 10:28:13 am »
I received mine today, and it is a splendid kit, a great companion to the T-54 I purchased a couple of weeks ago. I have long been impressed with Rubicon kits, having built about 25 or so, but that is not why I am posting. I believe I am starting to have a budding love affair with rubber tires. They are great, and add so much realism to the model. My only hope is that all the forthcoming wheeled vehicles have these rubber tires. If I could have any wish, it would be that Rubicon goes back and produces the appropriate parts and tires to allow converting older models to this new standard.

Wish Lists / Cold War Armor
« on: October 27, 2022, 11:09:26 pm »
Rubicon's Face Book page recently mentioned that they were "considering" producing cold war era vehicles. I for one hope this comes about.
While WWII holds my interest, it is during the Cold War that I aculally did my soldiering. To that end I though it might be productive to see what others think about the idea, and list those models that would be the essentials in any cold war line. By that I mean the major players initially, then if the line takes off in popularity, the nice to haves could be added.

These are the ones that I think of as essentials

M48A5
M60A1 and A3
M109 Early versions
Chieftian
FV432
T62
T64
T72
BMP 1 & 2

Of course to complement the ground game, a forward pass, in the form of an AH 1 Cobra would be most welcome

General Discussions / Israeli M-1 Super Sherman
« on: July 30, 2022, 12:58:17 am »
I am giving some thought to building an M-1 Super Sherman by kitbashing a Rubicon Sherman.

Just thinking that a preliminary starting place would be with the M4A2 then using an M4A3 turret. Anyone with a better starting place or some advice as how to proceed I would welcome your thoughts. I do know that there will be some scratch building involved, but just looking at photos that would seem to be minimal

Wish Lists / Recently released 2022 models
« on: February 09, 2022, 01:35:01 am »
Just noticed this morning the arrival here in the USA of the Pershing, Panzer II, and others. When will the other promised models in the Vietnam series be available here as well? I am particularly interested in the M48, M113, and T54/55.

General Discussions / Hanomag 251D
« on: July 04, 2021, 12:18:10 am »
I noticed on the Rubicon USA site that the Hanomag 251D is marked SOLD OUT. I was wondering if that means the 251D kit has been discontinued, in favor of the 251D three in one, or if the 251D is just temporarily out of stock?

Wish Lists / Another Quartet

I have a fondness for British Army tanks. Four I would really like to see produced by Rubicon are

The A9 Cruiser

The Matilda

The Cromwell

The Churchill

While I am at it, now that the M48 is in process, is there any possibility of an M48A5 being included when the M48A3 comes on the market? The 48A5 was not produced in time for the Vietnam War, but it is still the best and most capable of the M48 series. In fact the tankers I knew who crewed the A5 said it was a better tank that the M60A3 that it was meant to supplement. Except for the main gun and cupola the outside appearance of the A5 is nearly identical to the A3.

General Discussions / Three in One Hanomag 251
« on: June 27, 2021, 01:41:34 am »
I intend to purchase the Hanomag 251/D Three in one set in the very near future. My question is can the parts in that kit be used to build a 251C as an Engineer, Ambulance, or Platoon Leaders track, or does the internal configuration of the troop compartment preclude that?

General Discussions / Painting German vehicles
« on: June 11, 2021, 04:05:07 am »
My plan is, after clearing my current work off the Bench is to purchase a couple of Hanomag 251's, I have one, a 251C already, but after seeing that Deuce and a Half, inspired by the Monument Men on another thread, extremely well done I might add, I plan to build one of the Hanomags with a full canvas top. What I do not have a clue about is the color of that canvas top. Does anyone here know? I like to use Vallejo paints, but if there is some other brand that makes an match for the color, I am open to that.

Thanks in advance

Four models that I would love to see produced are from the late war period are the Russian JS III, the British Centurion, US M26 Pershing,
and the M24 Chaffee in plastic.
