General Discussions / Re: Q4 New Releases - Which Models?
« on: Today at 12:25:34 AM »
Q3 and Q4 usually are very busy for us, not particularly Rubicon Models product, but OEM-wise.

For Q3 each year, no matter how careful we scheduled our work and releases, the week-long Chinese National holiday ALWAYS messed up our new releases.  And Q4 is when basically ALL our OEM customers getting their stuff ready for Christmas.

Not sure if we will be late for Q4 again, we do have several surprises... wait until mid-November to find out!

PS: You can make an educated guess what is coming... might have a free Christmas gift for you... if you get it right!

When will the French (ex Neucraft) resin kits be released? Can't see them on the schedule, but knowing that the decals and instructions are all done, I had expected to see them in the next release?

Everything is being done, now awaiting QC and packaging.

Work In Progress / Re: Digital Sculpts - RM Trophy 171020
« on: October 20, 2017, 11:26:20 PM »
This is not something we do every day.  We did this trophy sculpt between jobs.

It is fun and quick to do, it measured 311mm (H) x 153mm (W), just over 12 inches high.

Figure busts on a stone pillar from five major WW2 nations!

While updating our work schedule records... To our surprises, we actually have SIXTEEN active projects on the mould making queue, not counting those on the Drawing Board. That's over 40 plastic injection moulds in the making!

Great - I'll be getting some CMPs and Sherman IIIs too.  The M4A2 box art is still wierd - it should have been a Sherman III in Italy (the 8th Army camo would have been particularly attractive - like the lovely painted version above).

When the box art renders are done, it is very difficult to make big adjustments because of the various composition issues with 2D and 3D objects.  And most of these were done many months (and even year) ago before final sprues are done.

Good to see the M4A2(76mm) box art is fixed.  Does it come with Soviet crew?

Afraid not because of the way we designed the sprue now.  Our plastic soviet crew (blister pack) will be very useful when they become available later.

Showcase & Gallery / Stompie, the T34/85 on Old Kent Road, South London
« on: October 14, 2017, 01:59:20 PM »
This is a very nice diorama created by our talented Steve Perry.  The diorama is based the T34/85 (by the name of Stompie) located on Old Kent Road, South London.

For more stories about this tank, you can use the slider on street view to see the change through the months:,-0.084879,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x48760367e5d6af7b:0x7f991b156745a493!8m2!3d51.4929844!4d-0.0826903

For the history behind this tank, this is a good summary:

Wish Lists / Re: Tiger II?

But I'd question why you'd do a Tiger II at all now there's one available.

Never said we are going to do a King Tiger. Just curious how many King Tigers had Zimmerit in real life.  Could see LOTS in military modelling kits... BUT...

I see Warlord/Italeri's next plastic kit (after the Char B1 bis) is the Marder III.

Why a Marder III and not the other Marder III variants, which was more "popular"?

Problem with Italeri is their tendency to downscale their existing 1/35 products to 1/56, and NOT creating a new one!

Work In Progress / Re: German AA/AT Guns - FlaK 38 Gun Crew 171012

Your figures look very good. The only problem that I see is your figure's tunic pockets. There was never a tunic issued to Heer troops that had a  flat pocket flap and pleated pockets together .It was one or the other.
German tunics had pleated pockets up until around 1942. Around 1943, also for economy reasons and ease of assembly, the pocket flap was cut straight across ,until the end of the war.

It was the camera that is making the illusion...the pocket flap is not flat. If you look at the digital sculpts a few post earlier, you will see it.  Should have taken the photo with a proper camera instead of a phone one!  :(

Should a King Tiger model kit come with Zimmerit?

The figures seem to be significantly better than the previous ones.  There is real depth to the details like the helmets and clothing.  The switch to a lighter coloured plastic will also help a lot.

We are using the same figure template since day 1 of digital sculpting.  Nothing had changed... except a much better photo booth setup!  :D

Took us a while to turn these figures into 3D prints based on our digital sculpts.
The result is very good.  Everything fits perfectly the first time!

The Flakvierling 38 will come with four German Heer crew – each with separate
figure heads.  We’ve also included the towing trailer as it would be rare to see a
Flakvierling without its means of transport.

The Flakvierling was also to be seen without the protective shields and we’ve
produced the model so you can leave these off if you so desire.
