General Discussions / Problems seeing forum posts
« on: March 22, 2020, 07:55:29 pm »
It might just be me, but I am unable to access the forum posts from the front page.

To get here, I had to do a search and find a post on the General Discussions sub forum.

I can view threads on a particular sub forum, but not go to the level above the sub forum (Rubicon Models/Rubicon Model).

This is the case on Safari and Chrome.

I was looking for something else and found these turnbuckles amongst the Grandt Line products.
https://www.grandtline.com/products/miscellaneous-hardware/

They might be useful for KV tank tow cables (I will stick with those etched ones I bought last year - or maybe the year before that....).

A while back there was a discussion on mould production and I mentioned the use of a pantograph milling machine. Well Renedra, who appear to be the only manufacturer of injection moulding tools to figure manufacturers in the UK (as opposed to any - possibly one - who have in-house capability) have a new marketing/social media person who has posted on Twitter a couple of short videos that certainly look like they star pantograph milling machines (I would have thought spark erosion kit should look a bit more technical and have some protection round the sparky bit).

Enjoy.
I am willing to be corrected.

General Discussions / Seen in the press.... Sherman III in wellies
« on: August 15, 2019, 03:38:18 pm »
While visiting the WH Smith memorial library recently, I noticed the cover article in Model Military International on a Sherman III with wading equipment.

Having bought the wading kit at Salute, it might prompt me to get on with it.

Wish Lists / Palm Trees
« on: May 24, 2019, 05:37:04 am »
A slightly different wish, 1/56 to 1/48 scale palm trees.

I do not know much about them, but varieties would be useful for North Africa, Italy and of course the Far East.

Egyptian Palm Trees.

Indian Ocean.

There are some interesting photographs on this site (probably available elsewhere, but a number I have not seen before).

It includes Canadian Shermans (one of which is a line of Shermans, one of which has not got the memo about being properly dressed), Recce Stuarts and Rams in colour.

Not me I will emphasise.

It is not being built at 1/56 scale but is still four feet plus.

Scale shot of the portico.

Wish Lists / LRDG 30cwt Chevrolet truck

An iconic vehicle for the LRDG, with various weapon loads.

Now I wonder if I have a photograph of the IWM example.

Inspired by Captain Blood's  CMP.

Wish Lists / Modified hulls and other "small" variations
« on: December 20, 2017, 04:34:08 pm »
The discussion on the JPanzer 38 thread relating to the the proposed Recce version upper hull has promoted a number of other ideas by my fellow contributers.

I just thought that a wishlist thread might be a better place.

I was thinking of variants where the component change was minimal, similar to the JPanzer 38. So a Priest conversion would not fit, but an ARV or BARV would (even though the latter is a new hull or large overlay).

Next post is something that went through my head last night.

Wish Lists / US T2X series prototypes.
« on: December 13, 2017, 03:18:15 am »
While I was building the M4A4E8, I had placed the turret on the chassis while I wa working on the upper hull.

What intrigued me was its resemblance to the T2X series of tank prototypes, especially the T23 (the source of the 76mm turret).

This would be an interesting composite model, using Sprue A and D for the turret and tracks and a resin upper hull and transmission cover.

Wish Lists / Who do you want to see?
« on: November 24, 2017, 09:03:16 pm »
Having watched The Death of Stalin, I wondered about a Jason Isaacs version of Zhukov.

Another would be a certain Canadian actor playing a tank commander with a positive attitude.

So who else would you like to see? Historical or theatrical.

If only for entertainment value.

Roto Trailer - filled with ammo and fuel ( in wheels ! ) towed by Valentine / Churchill tanks - seen in North Africa

Wish Lists / C15TA Armoured Truck
« on: August 09, 2017, 04:15:52 pm »
Based on the CMP 15 hundredweight truck.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/C15TA_Armoured_Truck

Only thought of it because of:

Not sure about how much of your existing work can be reused.

There is also the Otter.

Wish Lists / Windscreens and windows
« on: August 03, 2017, 03:09:07 pm »
With the increasing number of Rubicon models of softskin vehicles, is there an opportunity to develop a method of supplying the windows, initially as an add on, later as part of the kit.

Conventional moulded windows are excessively thick and have strange edge effects, hand cut windows exceed the skills of some modellers (like me).

I wondered if there was a potential technology that could manufacture reasonably priced windscreens and windows?

The Tank Museum posts short videos about its exhibits on YouTube.

They are worth a look.
