Work In Progress / Re: 1/56 (28mm) Modular Buildings
« on: December 16, 2014, 03:34:11 pm »
I think making the buildings entirely generic would be a mistake.

Maybe you can have mostly generic walls and some walls with details like window arches, corner stones or similar that would anchor the building in a real place, and then swap those parts out from different kits? Since we already are going modular I mean.

Other stuff like perhaps chimneys, window shutters etc that you fix onto the building could also serve to further differentiate the buildings.

I didn't notice you were asking about small arms too... well, basically all of them would be useful! However, more important I think would be to also include various ammo boxes, magazines, spare barrel casings etc.

Take a look at Tamiya's 1/35 weapon sets for instance. Here is the german one:

It has a lot of different weapons as well as ammo cases and holsters and pouches for the various weapons. It's not perfect as I would have liked it to have ammo belts as well, and a spare barrel case for the machine guns. Also note that this set is both for early and late war, featuring both a SturmGewehr 44 as well as a ERMA MP35 submachine gun.

It might be better to produce sets for early or late war, and include stuff like personal kit as well.

Great suggestion.

I don't know it it used the same chassis, but could you do a dual Priest/Sexton variant to please us british players, and maybe throw in a Kangaroo option too? If the Sexton proves too much work, at least consider a Priest/Kangaroo kit.

(The Kangaroo being Priests converted into personell carriers after the british forces recieved Sextons.)

I want the 17 pounder Achilles and don't really care if it's an M10 or M36 with it inside the box. I voted for the M10 because I had to vote for something! ;)

Germany : 88mm Pak\Flak
                 120 mm mortar
                  75 mm PAK 38

Not to nitpick, but which 88 do you want, the FLAK version or the PAK version? Same gun in two very different carriages.
Also, the 75mm PAK is the PAK40, the PAK 38 is 50mm, which do you mean?
Unless you of course mean the 75mm PAK 97/38 based on the French model 1897 gun.

Quote
USA :        75 mm pack howitzer
Gb             17 POUNDER QF
                   6 POUNDER QF

Agree with all the above.

Since my main area of interest is Normandy, I would like a zimmerited porsche design. However, I voted "No" since a Tiger II isn't really essential for me.

German,
Heav AT rifle/light AT gun
2.8 cm sPzB 41, used on it's own early on and then put on Sdkfz 221, 250 and 251's.

German
Light infantry gun
7,5 cm le.IG 18, standard close support infantry gun

German
Anti-tank rocket gun
8.8 cm Raketenwerfer 43 ("Puppchen") -- basically a Panzerschreck on wheels, but around 3000 were made.

Will be back with more suggestions.

Ok. I'm not rules-bashing, I just wouldn't want Rubicon to put a lot of money into a project that won't sell as much, especially in the vulnerable beginning.

Personally I have a need for 1-2 of each PaK or 6-pounder AT gun, and 1 of the various infantry guns up to 75mm -- for germans and brits anyway. I can see myself buying ONE 88 and ONE 17-pounder at most.

I can see other people buying more than that though  ;D

Here's a thought; while you say you don't want to do crew, if you accompany the gun kits with shells and ammo boxes, range finders and perhaps a couple of shovels or other paraphernalia, people could use those to convert figures into crew.

Apparently the Mercedes was more common in Africa. It did serve on all fronts but didn't stand up to the rigours of the eastern front. As others have said the Opel is more famous.

On the other hand, there's a Mercedes in Raiders of the Lost Ark  ;D

Apparently it's a mock-up based on a GMC truck... I think whichever truck you do will sell.

How many would you need for BA?

I mean, are they limited or restricted in numbers in any way, or could they potentially be used in as big numbers as anti-tank guns?

Just trying to gague the need.

Bolt Action uses heavy artillery on the table.

I don't want to go about rules bashing, but this IMHO is the biggest fault with these rules.

Anyway, I think smaller pieces like PAK and in some effect light FlAK guns would be more useful, not everyone plays BA. On the other hand, I would need four 105's for a Brecourt Manour scenario...  8)

One more vote for a Hetzer and/or a Pz38-based Marder/flakpanzer kit, as well as Jagdpanzer IV.

If you do an accessory sprue, take a look and see if you can include a star antenna for the command vehicles. Not sure it's doable in plastic but a nice way to depict a command tank.

Another building, from the Bessin Normandie area (wherever that is?) which shows a 300-year old farmhouse.

Typical rendering over stone that has cracked and fallen off, slate roof and large window shutters. Satellite antenna presumably a late addition :-)

Edit: It's a bed and breakfast now, about 40 minutes west of Caen, smack inland of Omaha beach apparently. Website: http://www.normandybandb.biz/
