General Discussions / Re: Italeri news
« on: March 06, 2015, 07:46:50 pm »
I overall agree on your point but...

a) italeri products are in my view inferior to yours with respect to quality of design and options but they are still high standard products. I have just bought a couple of their tanks from warlord and i should say that are not bad and in particular far better than resin counterparts.
b) For modeller higher quality counts but for many wargamers has a smaller value (at least in friendly games items may be proxied a little so not much relevant if the muzzle is precise or you have the beautiful detail in the wheels). I am not saying that is not good or required i simply say that for a specific market that may not be very important.... Of course yours have many variations and more details but also more pieces to assemble ...
Again I do not know whihc is your target market but i think that wargamers are an important part of your sales base...
c) Italeri products may be competitive price-wise with yours (clearly non taking into account the quality). 3 panthers from psc come at  54 GBP + 15% post and  the warlord platoon costs 55 GBP so there is a 15% difference  and similarly this is the difference for others but the tiger the difference is higher 3 tigers come at 62 + 15%  vs 55... However if you get them directly from Italeri the difference is even higher since in their sice the tiger is at 19 EURO vs almost 30-35 with the unfabourable change we have now... In some cases cost may have a role in the choiche.

these are just my 2 cents.

Given this i think:

a) not a big issue if you have overlaps with other producers. it is important to have the best selling like pziv or stug rather than obscure variants.
b) keep high quality since this is a distinctive feature but perhaps go in the direction of offering more kits of the same model: i already pointed out that with the sherman you cannot have a separate turret so hae two models with one of your boxes. his could be nice and also will be liked by some.
for example the t34/76 and 85 could have been combined so that you may interchange simply the turret. I know that the ring was larger and placed differently but perhaps simple solutions could be done to circumvent.  I don't know if this means more sales for you ...
c) ask your reseller to keep postage cost low... basically thse make an artificial 15-20% cost increase of your models
...
d) keep us informed about your production plans... that may be useful for us as well... I wanted to buy the t34/85 from warlord but i refrained when i saw you announced yours... (and i am egerly waiting them!!!)

keep these as constructive comments of a nhusiast customer...
you are doing an excellent work !
by the way italeri announced a modular building too...

The t34/76 turret fits also in the t34/85 hull ?

The multi colored sprue reminds me the old matchbox ho models... That I mounted and painted in tons when I was a kid... Hem in the last century!

Could be an idea for the lazy war gamers but adds another complexity to sprue design since you have to group in the same sprue the items that should have the same color...

In any case I always painted them so it's a waste of time... But reminds me the old good times...

I agree that stowage should be separate kit... Much useful should also be a crew kit with tank commanders and drivers that fit into your models. Using those of other manufacturer is difficult and there is not much choice... I have 5warlord Willis all with the same driver and I had to work a lot to change the head or arm to give a little variation...

Brick and ston walls are very useful since they are difficult to scratch build.
Plaster can be easily added on top of them even by non expert and lots of variants may be done. In oarticular one can leave the bricks visible in some points to simulate damaged plaster.

WHEN will it be out? I can't wait to ha a platoon of them !
Please also consider growing this project to get th flamer, and the stummel... The resin ones are horrible.

7
do you plan to do the stummel ?

8
Beautyful in the Africa you should add the 90th lt division...

small magnets are fantastic ! I used also them on the base of a 50 cal so that i can add them as optional on the resin warlord sherman and to the willis jeep...

I always have lot of fun with magnets also with wh40k models to give them optional weapons...

Thanks pinky,
it's true about the gaps in the turret they are quite visible... actually i only spot some error looking at the pictures after finishing... this time i was eager to try the new airbrush that santa brought to me !...

Anyway I use models to play so I always try a good compromise between time and effect.. the mud is done with a mixture of plaster sand and glue plus some color. It makes the dark (wet) base that i then dry brush with sand color to get the drying mud. overall i like the effect.
The I put some sand pigment overall to get the dusty effect and fix with matt cote airbrushed.

i did not put (as i did in previous models) the black/grey spots... it's very time consuming and overall I don't like the exceedingly weathered vehicles...

really a very good paint job and weathering... i would love to have some details on how you did it... i was happy of mine but you really frustrated me...

it is called mini-mold by tt combat...
i bought it on ebay from a uk modelling store... it was quite cheap and it works... even better the molds are reusable.. you put the plastic block  in boiling water for a couple of minutes so that it softens then you press in the object you wish to reporduce and wait untill it hardens again. then you have your mold.
I used green stuff but two component resin can be used as well.
it's a great stuff to reproduce small parts. i thought to use it also to replicate small parts that are difficult or expensive to find. like an us flamethrower...

Here you have a picture of the finished Sherman. I really love this model ! Thank you Rubicon... If I start liking Tank wars I will certainly purchase two more of these tanks!

I had to work quite a lot to get two independent turrets... lots of magnets around and a green stuff mould of a missing turret hatch.

A complete review of the work and many pictures can be found in my blog
