Wish Lists / leopard 1( A1 or A3)
« on: January 30, 2021, 06:53:13 am »
The Leopard 1 is a main battle tank designed and produced by Porsche in West Germany that first entered service in 1965. Developed in an era when HEAT warheads were thought to make conventional heavy armour of limited value, the Leopard focused on firepower in the form of the German-built version of the British L7 105-mm gun, and improved cross-country performance that was unmatched by other designs of the era.

Production of the leopard 1 was set up at Krauss-Maffei of Munich from early 1964 onward, with deliveries of the first batch between September 1965 and July 1966. The Leopard was soon being purchased from Germany by a number of NATO members and other allies, including (in chronological order) Belgium (1968), the Netherlands (1969), Norway (1970), Italy (1971), Denmark (1976), Australia (1976), Canada (1978), Turkey (1980) and Greece (1981).

The Leopard 1A3 is based on the Leopard 1 which originated from West Germany and first entered service in 1965. Designed by Porsche, 110 Leopard 1A3s were ordered from the fifth batch of vehicles from the Leopard Project which started in 1965 aiming to develop a modern tank to replace the American M47 and the M48 Patton tanks which were quickly becoming outdated in Germany's reestablished army.

It weighs more than 40 tonnes, is about 10 meters long, has an engine of 820 horsepower, withstands 20mm hits from all sides and can operate in radioactive wastelands and areas contaminated with chemicals weapons. It also had a 105mm British L7A3 gun as it's main weapon loaded with 55 rounds and either twin 7.62 x 2mm MG 3s or twin Belgian FN MAGs situated on the top of the tank.

Wish Lists / V-100 Commando
« on: January 30, 2021, 06:38:40 am »
The M-706, also known as the V-100 Commando or XM706E2, was built by Cadillac Gage starting in 1964 for use in Vietnam for reconnaissance, convoy escort, base perimeter defense, and other security duties.

It was deployed in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force as well as ARVN and Thai forces, and later found customers in military and police organizations around the world. With up to .25 inch armor and deflecting angled surfaces, the crew was protected from small arms fire, grenades and anti-personnel mines.

Wish Lists / M163 vulcan
« on: January 30, 2021, 06:14:43 am »
used in vietnam the vulcan is an absolute must have IMO. especially if you are interested by nato or israeli army during the seventies.
The M163 Vulcan Air Defense System (VADS) is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG) that was used by the United States Army.  The M163 consists of an M168 Vulcan 20 mm cannon with radar fire control mounted on a modified M113 armored personnel carrier. The M168 gun is a variant of the General Dynamics 20 mm M61 Vulcan rotary cannon, the standard cannon in most U.S. combat aircraft since the 1960s, mounted on either an armored vehicle or a trailer.

Wish Lists / centurion mk 5 AVRE
« on: January 30, 2021, 02:45:44 am »
Maybe it could be an option for the centurion kit of RM ? IMO rubicon would have just to update the gun to fit the specific one of an AVRE.
The Centurion AVRE entered service with the Royal Engineers in 1963 alongside the FV3903 Churchill AVRE, as it gradually took its place.

It was assigned to the three Armoured Engineer Squadrons of the 32nd Assault Engineer Regiment. These consisted of the 26th, 31st, and 77th Armoured Engineer Squadrons. The AVRE’s roots in the 79th Armoured Division and ‘Hobart’s Funnies’ were never forgotten. To this end, most of, if not all of the Centurions had the famous Bulls Head insignia of the 79th applied somewhere on their armor.

Only the British Army would ever use the Centurion AVRE. It took part in annual training exercises in the UK, Germany, and even BATUS (British Army Training Unit Suffield) in Canada. It famously saw action in ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland in the early 1970s, and later in the First Gulf War in the 1990s.
The Ordnance BL 165mm (6.5 in) L9A1 Demolition Gun fired a 64 lb (29 kg) High Explosive Squash Head (HESH) shell up to 2,400 m (2,600 yds). The gun was reportedly accurate enough to blast a bridge girder at 600 yards (549 meters) or hit a pillbox or bunker at 1400 yards (1280 meters). At greater ranges, it was an effective Area-Of-Effect (AOE) weapon. The gun could elevate 20 degrees, and depress 10 degrees, though depression was limited over the engine deck.

Wish Lists / early 105mm gun version of M1 abrams
« on: January 29, 2021, 06:04:19 am »
The M1 Abrams is a third-generation American main battle tank designed by Chrysler Defense (now General Dynamics Land Systems). Conceived for modern armored ground warfare and now one of the heaviest tanks in service at nearly 68 short tons (almost 62 metric tons), it introduced several innovative features, including a multifuel turbine engine, sophisticated Chobham composite armor, a computer fire control system, separate ammunition storage in a blow-out compartment, and NBC protection for crew safety. Initial models of the M1 were armed with a licensed-produced 105 mm Royal Ordnance L7 gun

The M1 Abrams was the first vehicle to adopt Chobham armor. A total of 3,273 M1 Abrams tanks were produced during 1979–1985 and first entered U.S. Army service in 1980

Wish Lists / ZSU-57-2 (based on T54 tank)
« on: January 28, 2021, 04:47:04 am »
The ZSU-57-2 (Ob'yekt 500) is a Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG), armed with two 57 mm autocannons.

The ZSU-57-2 officially entered service in the Soviet Army on 14 February 1955. Soviet engineers designed a vehicle that used a modified T-54 chassis, with four twin road wheels per side instead of five, and much thinner armour. The vehicle was armed with twin 57 mm S-68 autocannon in a new, large, rotating, open-topped turret.

Wish Lists / why not soviets t62 and t72 ?
« on: January 26, 2021, 01:50:54 am »
The T-62 is a Soviet main battle tank that was first introduced in 1961. As a further development of the T-55 series, the T-62 retained many similar design elements of its predecessor including low profile and thick turret armour. In contrast with previous tanks, which were armed with rifled tank guns, the T-62 was the first tank armed with a smoothbore tank gun that could fire APFSDS rounds at higher velocities.

While the T-62 became the standard tank in the Soviet arsenal, it did not fully replace the T-55 in export markets due to its higher manufacturing costs and maintenance requirements compared to its predecessor.

Because of the firepower of the new 115 mm gun, it was considered to be a formidable tank for the time, despite its drawbacks.Along with the T-55, the T-62 was one of the most common tanks in the Soviet inventory. The two tanks together once comprised approximately 85% of the Soviet army's tanks.

Later in the 1970s, the T-62 was rendered obsolete and was put into reserve service. The T-72  later succeeded it.
The T-72 is a family of Soviet main battle tanks that first entered production in 1971.About 20,000 T-72 tanks have been built, and refurbishment has enabled many to remain in service for decades:

Wish Lists / a plastic 1/56 M60 would be great
« on: January 22, 2021, 11:43:40 pm »
The M60 was America’s primary tank through the last decades of the Cold War from 1961 to 1987 :

Created as an improved version of the M48 Patton, the M60 was equipped with a bigger gun and an updated engine.  Over 15,000 examples were built by Chrysler and the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant from 1961 to 1987. Though too late to serve in Vietnam, Israeli versions of the M60 fought in the 1973 Yom Kippur War and 1982 Lebanon War.   M60A1 tanks fought in U.S. Marine units in Grenada and Beirut in 1983, and Iranian forces used M60s in the Iran-Iraq War from 1980 to 1988. During Desert Storm, U.S. Marine M60s fought against Soviet-built Iraqi tanks, destroying over 100 with the loss of only one M60. The M60 was retired by U.S. military forces by the mid-1990s.

Wish Lists / uh1-N twin huey
« on: January 22, 2021, 10:40:28 pm »
Why not a twin huey to go with the UH-1H and D ?

From late 1970, the UH-1N re-equipped the USAF 20th Special Operations Squadron in Vietnam, replacing the single-engined UH-1F and UH-1P. Armed with miniguns (or 40 mm grenade launchers) and rocket pods, and painted camouflage with no US markings and only a Green Hornet insignia, the UH-1N supported Special Forces reconnaissance missions

a canadian version Bell-CH-135

Wish Lists / early AH-1G COBRA and AH-1S
« on: January 17, 2021, 06:34:04 am »
In my opinion, to go with the future RM huey it would be great to have early AH-1G  and late cobras AH-1S Cobra.

In 1976 the US Army upgraded the AH-1G  with a three step program called AH-1S.

The Bell AH-1 Cobra is a two-blade rotor, single-engine attack helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter. It was developed using the engine, transmission and rotor system of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois. A member of the prolific Huey family, the AH-1 is also referred to as the HueyCobra or Snake.
By June 1967, the first AH-1G HueyCobras had been delivered.

Wish Lists / Anyone for a sheridan ?
« on: December 11, 2020, 06:30:39 am »
Hello
I am delighted by the perspective of a vietnam area 28mm kits. So with the future release of the UH1D and the ford MUTT I would be pleased to have a M551 sheridan tank for my rubicon's marines in vietnam :)

In vietnam the Sheridan was much appreciated by the infantry, who were desperate for direct-fire support, and generally served in armored cavalry units along with ACAVs (M113s). Armor units consisted solely of tanks (minus headquarters company) and mechanized infantry units consisted solely of M113s. In this role, the real problem with the Sheridan was its limited ammunition load; normally, only 20 rounds and 8 missiles; although, as the M551s in Vietnam service were not equipped with missiles or their guidance equipment, this increased the basic load of conventional rounds.
among different Combat field modifications, a common field-modification was to mount a large steel shield, known as an "ACAV set" (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle), around the commander's 50-cal. (12.7 mm) gun, allowing it to be fired with some level of protection.
An other standard modification made during the mid-70s was the addition of the "Cereal Bowl" commander's cupola.
Post-Vietnam War service
The Army began to phase out the Sheridan in 1978, although at the time there was no real replacement. Nevertheless, the 82d Airborne Division was able to keep them until 1996.
