Title: Converting a Sdkfz 234/1
Post by: Zaphod on January 15, 2018, 04:58:06 pm
A question, does the Hanglafette 38 turret from the 250/9 upgrade kit fit Warlords Puma model. While I can get a resin model I fancy having one that can do double duty.

While we cannot confirm if our turret will fit perfectly onto an Italeri Puma model, we do have seen conversions done before.  So the answer would be yes!

Zaphod, I converted one and you would have to enlarge the turretopening a bit for the turret to fit, but it is certainly feasable.

I can also confirm that, with fairly minimal fettling, the Rubicon turret can be made to fit the WG Puma.

Who's going take the next step and use the 250/8 , 251/9 add on kit to make a 234/3 ?

Not me.  I like this and other 234 variants a lot, but I don't like the Italeri Puma kit.  The axles are a pain, and the wheels are hollow.  I'd rather wait for Rubicon to tackle the 8-wheeler series.

Yea it was a PIA to get all that under carriage stuff to fit right . I added discs to the wheel backs to fix that problem , all thought they should have been full wheels to start with . I'm going to give it a go eventually , Ive got the add on kit on order , 1 to be used on a 250 neu . Going to built a 234/1 as well as I have the 20mm turrets coming too . Just waiting for a sale on plastic 234/2s  ::) . Now what to do with extra Puma turret kits ?

Yes, the tyres were a serious letdown.

I filled them with Milliput and put the best four at the ends.

I also lost a steering link, but that was just incompetence on my part.

Build paper (leicht) Panzers with them.

I found a couple of ideas . IRC the Puma turret was originally designed for the late Panzer II L/M

That's cool but only available in resin

Now this is possible ,using the extra driver's vision port from my Stug III kit , Warlord has it in plastic and I can use the 38(t) turret on an Atlantic Wall pillbox

To be honest, I liked the 1/56 scale Puma kit from Italeri (made for Warlord Games). Yes, I too thought that the hollow wheels were a bit strange and not something Italeri normally does to their kits, but overall, I think it is a good little kit for gamers and modelers if you look past that weird aspect about the wheels being hollow. However, as ultravanillasmurf pointed out, if its an issue, it can be filled.

What I can't wait to see is the release of the Sdkfz 222 armored car by Rubicon models. I need a few to replace the resin ones I have in my collection.

This is the latest testshot of the SdKfz 222/223... still making adjustments to the moulds!  Almost there...

For early war I'll need one of each . Supposed to have been a couple in Berlin 45 ( training school  ? ) wonder if they got 3 color camo ?

Yes, the hollow wheels on the Italeri kit were a bit odd, but easily filled (nice job UVS), though always thought the kit was basically ok (the tracking arms/suspension caught me out a bit on the first one I made, but the second went together smoothly).
The 222 looks great, really looking forward to it & that they trundled on through pretty much the entire war makes them a very useful kit.
