Work In Progress / Re: Proposed Project: Churchill
« on: December 02, 2014, 11:22:15 pm »
As with any tank whose service history was comprised of many marks over the whole war, the Churchill presents a few problems - namely you have to produce at least two quite different kits - one for early - mid & one for mid - late war.
So, with that in mind, my vote would be for one kit to represent MKs III - V & one for Mks VI - VIII (with, if possible representation of some AVRE variants - spigot mortar, 3' howitzer etc).
Dividing them may be problematic as hatches etc. can be in very different positions, which may make 'multi-mark' kits difficult.
As to whether late or early war should come first - I think you might get more bites for one of the 75 armed marks, but I'm sure there are others out there who'd feel differently.

Would agree that sans-zimmerit's the way to go, covering the greatest number of vehicles produced - however, as has been stated, the 'Porshe' turreted examples (the first fifty or so production models) pretty much all would have been coated, so a historical approach does somewhat back you into a corner. The only approach which would cover all options (whilst avoiding huge expense) would be to produce a zimmerit as a photo-etch set - possibly in co-operation with one of the companies that already make such add-ons for the scale model crowd (I'm sure you could sell them on such a project - after all, gamers tend to buy multiples & as such would represent a largely untapped market for them) .

I think Laffe pretty much nailed the descriptions, brick, stone, decayed render etc. As to interiors, I'm not sure more is needed than a textured floor (boards or tiles) & some detail on the windows & fireplaces ( I say this as none of the mdf scenery - 4Ground, Sarissa etc had them - & somehow it just looks wrong!) Look forwad to more news on this!

I'd also love to see kits of E series vehicles - I realise that they're a bit 'special interest' - but a good number of gamers do play 'weird war' systems, (Secrets Of The Third Reich, AEWWII, Nuts etc) and a quick check of LAF or West-Wind's weird war threads demonstrate a desire to see these vehicles produced - the only existing options at 28mm (or thereabouts) being Gasoline/Quarter-Kits rather pricy & limited offerings, (which are also of very limited availability). Warlord have produced a Coelian Panther variant & JTFM are at some point introducing their 'After 45' range, including Katzchen & E series tanks - laso demonstrating that (at least) some demand exists.

Would certainly be interested in a 'D', (the other plastic option being a 'C') as I play mostly late war & love the idea of Pioneer & ambulance options.

Flakpanzers in general would be appreciated, Wirbelwinds, Ostwinds (& a Kugeblitz would be cool - yes I know only two were built) & mostly only require different turrets.
Also a plastic Hetzer would be great.

Yes, plus I would have thought it possible to include the parts for a British Achilles variant for an M10.

I agree on the desirability aspect trumping whether or not the vehicle saw much service - I'd certainly be in for a Comet or two.
Perhaps a late model Valentine (X or XI) - I guess it would partly depend on whether you could base a number of variants on the same kit. I also agree on the Challenger, but see how this would be trickier - with no other vehicles using the stretched Cromwell chassis it'd be a rather one purpose kit (a bit like a Churchill Black Prince).

A good truck kit for each of the combatents would be great, (Opel Blitz or Merc Phenom, Bedford QRD or similar etc) plastic would definately be an improvement (having just grappled with yet another ill fitting resin/pewter Blitz).
While I understand that they wouldn't be among your first raft of releases, a chance of future treatment would be fantastic.

Hello all, I'm Matt from London, have been gaming for a looong time & have to say that these kits look great, I'll take plastic over resin/pewter any day - ease of assembly/conversion potential makes them very attractive - I eagerly await their release.
I began with WWII gaming in the 70's (20mm - 1/72 & 1/35 modelling) before moving on to the standard big company games. Have gradually swung back toward WWII & various skirmish level games (Strange Aeons, Pulp Alley, Malifaux etc).
Look forward to handing over some money!
