General Discussions / Re: Panzer III & IV Revisited
« on: September 15, 2016, 05:16:29 pm »
Some background info for further discussion:

Panzer III
- The running gear design changed considerably during the developmental period.
- Ausf A to Ausf D had totally different lower hull design.
- Ausf E to Ausf G are using the same lower hull design.
- From Ausf H onward, there are some design changes, but had remained the same until the end of the variants (Ausf N).

Panzer IV
- The running gear design had been quite stable throughout development.
- Ausf A upper hull design is unique.
- Ausf B to Ausf E had a similar upper hull design and layout.
- Ausf F to Ausf H had minor layout changes with up-armoured modifications.
- Ausf F to Ausf H also had several up-gun changes as well.
- Ausf J had exhaust changes.

Comments welcome!

General Discussions / Panzer III & IV Revisited

To go in-line with us redesigning our M4 Sherman, we are also looking into redoing both our Panzer III and Panzer IV.
Research work had already begun, we would also like your input as well.

Please feel free to post your comments below...

Thanks!!

Thanks for the advices.  Rivets on early tanks is a major obstacle to resolve as you cannot just put them everywhere!  "Rivet Counters" are particularly harsh in that respect, lol!

Unlike 1/35 scale, making 1/56 riveted turrets in plastic is not as easy as it seems.  The overall tracks and hull design is a breeze when you compared them to the turret!

Work In Progress / Re: British 15cwt CMP Truck - It's official!!
« on: September 13, 2016, 05:44:30 pm »
main problem with the CMP is the great number of cabins used ...

We will only do one of the most common ones as shown on the diagram.

With the basic cab framework, conversion to other cabin types (with minor looks) can be done easily by any modellers with little efforts.

Even though still in the design phase, our initial thoughts is to give the truck a "basic" rear trunk with either some canvas support bars and/or a full canvas top.

Work In Progress / British 15cwt CMP Truck - Decal Sheet Final 170827
« on: September 13, 2016, 04:02:12 pm »
This is official... Rubicon Models is working on a plastic British 15cwt truck based on the Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck. Made in large numbers in Canada during WW2 to British Army specifications for use in the armies of the British Commonwealth allies. Standard designs were drawn up just before the beginning of the war.

CMP trucks were also sent to the Soviet Union following the Nazi invasion. During the war, CMP trucks saw service around the world in the North African Campaign, the Allied invasion of Sicily, the Italian Campaign, the Soviet Front, the Burma Campaign, the Battle of the Philippines (1941–42), the liberation of Northwest Europe, and the Western Allied invasion of Germany. CMP trucks also saw service in post-war conflicts in Indonesia, French Indochina, and the Portuguese colonies in Africa.

Our aim is to create a basic 2 sprue plastic kit which will serve as a base for conversion and kitbashing. We have no release date for this kit as it is still under the 3D drawing phase. We will update her progress on FB as often as possible.

Enjoy!

The M18 is not something we will do right away!  We eventually will do one... for late war!

Early war is something we are very interested in, and thus the recent projects on bikes, trucks, AT guns, and so forth!

Problem is these smaller vehicles, in fact, are more difficult to design due to their smaller footprint... you will need a lot of smaller parts.  Something that we think is a problem for gamers!

Looks really good.  Any photos of the figures?

Unfortunately no.  Still refining the 3D sculpts...

The problem working on multiple sets of figures with plastic is we wanted to
wait until TS1 of the vehicle is done first.  Then fitting the figures prototypes
to the vehicle to make sure they fitted as intended, thus the delay on releases!

We actually had to finish two projects before we can release them as a single
product!  More efforts, more money spent, same result!  Hahaha...

Not the best of photography, our photo booth is still somewhere
buried inside some carton boxes... our T1 plastic sprue for the
Jeep!

Don't ask us about how the Jeep will be packaged until QC is done!
What you've seen here will enable you to build - standard US / SAS /
LRDG / Airborne jeep... plus all the conversions & kitbashing you
wanted!

Enjoy!

Looks as though the glacis, engine deck and rear are going to be optional.
if this is a Firefly (the gun travel lock on the engine deck is for the Firefly and not a standard M4) then the hull MG should be blanked off.

The things you've seen in the diagram is a combination of all parts that is possible... ;)

When we design our PaK gun crew, we pay special attention so that
customers will have their choice with or without figure basing for
gaming or diorama use! We really care!
