Wish Lists / Re: Ideas for future tank kits

Ballardian: That's an interesting pic of the Comet with Normandy cowl you have there. I'm not sure how the crew would utilise the gun crutch on the rear deck though, it looks like the cowl would foul the gun. Every image of a Comet with the cowl fitted that I have seen has a break in the middle to allow the gun to sit properly, is yours a pre-production model using the Cromwell cowl maybe? Do you have any idea when/where the pic was taken?

Wish Lists / Allied AT Guns?
« on: August 23, 2016, 07:47:56 pm »
I was just wondering if there were any plans for the Allies to get their towed guns as well as the Germans, I appreciate that the German guns came as a spin-off from the 250/251 upgrades, but it would be nice to see, at least, the British 6lbr gun, which the US also built, and used, as the 57mm gun M3 (I think), so it would maximise your market.

The 2lbr may be more complicated, because of the way the carriage unfolded, but the 17lbr used a conventional trail arrangement and you already have the gun mostly modelled from the M10/M36/Achilles project!

I don't see the preponderance of US types as an issue in regard of the packs. Both the UK and Russia received huge quantities of US kit through Lend Lease, so non US packs are not exactly going to be rare on US built vehicles.

Also don't forget that I'm sure the Axis forces would have utilised abandoned Allied packs, etc from time to time, I know it went the other way.

More single Commonwealth backpacks would be helpful as well, no Commonwealth infantry kit I have found includes enough for vehicle stowage as well.

According to the Osprey book by Fletcher,  the narrow (M34) mantlet was considered unsuitable, probably because of difficulties in fitting the 17lbr, as were diesel engines(the M4A2 was mostly used by the USMC?) and electric and one of the designs of hydraulic traverse.By the time you take all these into account, it only leaves the M4/M4 Hybrid, and M4A4 as potential doner vehicles IF they have the Oilgear hydraulic traverse system. As I recall, the US stopped production of the M4 fairly early in the European campain, much to the chagrin of the British who quite liked it, which is why most Fireflies seem to be converted from the M4A4 (Sherman V). Of course all of this is conjecture unless we can speak to someone who was actually involved in the conversion program at a fairly high level, and that isn't going to happen for obvious reasons.

My reference to 4 guns included the US M1A1 76mm and the 105mm Howitzer, though the 76 may have not been used on M4?

Pinky: I'm aware that the M4A1 wasn't considered suitable for the firefly conversion, something to do with the wrong mantlet or traverse gear i think ( both?), which is why I didn't ask for an early Sherman II. It was the Sherman I exclusively that I was after, the problem with the M4A4, even with rubicons excellent work on multi variant kits, is that I think 3 turrets and 4 guns may be two much even for them to fit into one kit. I suppose the Fireflies loaders hatch/radio box could be  seperate components, dropping the parts count to only 2 turrets, but we are still looking at 4 different guns, unless the 17lbr muzzlebrake was a seperate part as well, using the 76mm M1A1 barrel, which could compromise the accuracy rubicon are striving for. Now if someone were to release aftermarket conversions at a reasonable price....

How on earth did I forget the Sherman I hybrid? Does anyone make one at the moment?

Now if you were to continue with the early/mid war theme for the we Brits and do an A11 Matilda for France/North Africa?

I second the call for an early M4 sherman, especially if it also includes parts for the Sherman 1c firefly. Not as numerous as the Vc, but I think that just adds to its charm, not to mention that the running gear and lower hull could maybe be re-used for the M3 Lee/Grant?

If my info is correct ( and I will have to check) both the mk111 and mkV 6pdr guns were fitted to crusader. The mkV had a longer barrel IIRC.

What about a Crusader spare wheel instead of the T34 (which also solves the problem of WHICH T34 wheel!) ? They seem to have been used a lot by Cromwell units in Europe since the hubs were the same size, IIRC a lot of units cannibalised their Crusader AA's for spare wheels. It could also be used for all of the A13/A15 cruisers.

Do you really need two of each bridge plate, I thought they were only worn 1 per vehicle. If I'm right, you could replace one of each with an (18) and (20) and not need any extra space on the sheet.

My big cats always seem to break down or run out of fuel , think I need to get some luckier dice

quite a common accurance IRL from what I can gather, maybe you should stick with PzIV?

It is no good if we only included a towed carriage for the PaK40 without gun crews!  We do have many plans... waiting for their turns!!   ;D
I'd be quite happy to see just the carriage and gun actually. It isn't that hard to convert plastic infantry into gun crew, and it lets me exercise my creative muscles a bit. However  I see your point of view, not everyone has spare infantry lying around or the will / ability to convert them.

Loving the /22, you can never have too many Heavy anti tank guns in Bolt Action. Just a thought though, how difficult would it be to produce a towed carriage for the PaK40? I admit its a bit late to put it in with the /22 upgrade, but maybe as a later kit, or bundled with a future Marder kit? it seems a shame to only use that lovely Pak40 for one model.

that 80mm mortar looks nice, can it be built dismounted as well or is it only usable within the vehicle?
Also, will any of these upgrades be compatible with the forthcoming SdKFz 250 kit? I think the 80mm mortar and 7.5cm L24 howitzer were mounted on the smaller chassis as well.

Wish Lists / Re: British Tanks? What British Tanks?
« on: June 08, 2015, 06:20:54 am »
On the subject of early war tanks. How about the A9 and A10 cruisers? It might be possible to get both tanks and the CS versions into one box, in a simliar manner to what PSC are planning with their 15mm version, as I dont think there were very many detail differences between the two. Might have to check that when I go down to Bovington for Tankfest in a few weeks. Would there be any interest in some walkaround photo's?
As an added bonus, the lower hull and running gear might be usable for other vehicles such as Infantry tank mk111 Valentine, SP 25lbr Bishop and SP 17lbr Archer. Though there may be a lack of interest in that last one, I don't think all that many were built.

Also, now that the Crusader is apparently getting close to release, how about the Staghound armoured  car? The Mk111 version used the turret from the Crusader Mk111. It would be great if you could add in some Tulip rocket rail as well

Sorry, I know it seems like I want everything ( maybe I do?). I'm rather passionate when it comes to British armoured vehicles, and I may get carried away with what I'd like to see made in plastic.
