Title: Trucks
Post by: Morsleib on September 10, 2014, 12:37:10 am
I know trucks aren't sexy like tanks but they should sell in multiples. Ignoring the Tank Wars rules, in a single (Bolt Action) reinforced platoon you can only have one tank but you can have a transport for every squad. How about an Opel Blitz or Bedford 1.5 ton? Deuce and a half?

Terry, we have a long list of soft-skin transports on our TO-DO list.  What you'd mentioned are definitely on that spreadsheet.  The reason we are now so focused on tanks is to bring us enough revenue ($$$) to enable us to push forward for more goodies!

There are so many WW2 military vehicles, it will take us some time to do it all!  We do have a work schedule and a priority list that we regularly review.  Hopefully, one of your requests is on top!

THIS wish list is here for some reasons!  :)

Soft skinned Vehicles would be also high on my wish list. For much the same reasons that Morslieb (Terry) stated. Also i would love to see:
- a SdKFZ 251/1 Kit that offers some Variants i.e Version C AND D plus upgrade to /10.
- SdKFZ 250
- Kübelwagen....please tell me you are doing a Kübelwagen at som Stage, that will not be the Price of a small Tank.

Will you also do Soliders? or just Vehicles? Tankcrews and seated infantry to go with the Trucks...that would be Sweet.

We are definitely working on some soft skins, making them "multi-variant with options" take long time to research and verify their accuracy.  Size of a vehicle in plastic does not affect prices, but number of sprues does!  Therefore we also spend a lot of time to review our production costs as well...

Doing soldiers or crew is something we would like to do later.  We have all the digital sculpting hardware, but would rather focused doing one thing at a time.  We want all our products to be of high quality at reasonable prices.  We are not a big establishment, only a design studio with "a" handful of talented people.  There are already so many metal and plastic minis out there, we can wait!  At this point, we might partner with a mini manufacturer to make complement figures for us; that way, everybody will benefit!

Dodge an other light or medium trucks

Also the white scout cars...
Currently they are only available in resin from very expensive and slow North American producers... Not easy for the old continent!

We could see some light and medium trucks coming out in 2015, not sure the exact release schedule, but is definitely coming!

That's good to hear Mr Rubicon. How about adding a jeep to the list? They come out very expensive in metal or resin. They suit US British and I am note sure if Russia got lease lend ones or they just used homemade ones. There are lots of specialist variants and saw many theatres.

I want to second the jeeps.  So many variants - US 30/50 cal, SAS, tow, lend lease.  Lots of options to build from one base sprue.

The Jeep is high on the list... but need to get other projects completed before we can start working on it!

A good truck kit for each of the combatents would be great, (Opel Blitz or Merc Phenom, Bedford QRD or similar etc) plastic would definately be an improvement (having just grappled with yet another ill fitting resin/pewter Blitz).
While I understand that they wouldn't be among your first raft of releases, a chance of future treatment would be fantastic.

Nice to know that plastic trucks are being considered. I know what I would like to see at some point is a kit to represent the trucks used by the LRDG. I can imagine that to be a fun little modeling project.

Trucks are relatively much easier to research and build.  Our concern is to keep parts and sprue count low.  This will, in turn, keep RRP low as well.

After we had completed all on-hand projects, we will start to look into trucks.  No promises though!

I know after some of the boltaction.net guys have been putting together some resin Opel Blitz and pulling their hair out, a plastic kit to Rubicon standard would be a godsend.

Which one is better in terms of tabletop use - Mercedes Benz L3000 or the Opel Blitz?  Probably same, but which is more popular?
Had not done too much research on the topic yet, still need to find more info about both!

I think the Opel Blitz is more iconic and a lot more were made. You could also use it as the base for a Maultier kit later on.

Apparently the Mercedes was more common in Africa. It did serve on all fronts but didn't stand up to the rigours of the eastern front. As others have said the Opel is more famous.

On the other hand, there's a Mercedes in Raiders of the Lost Ark  ;D

Apparently it's a mock-up based on a GMC truck... I think whichever truck you do will sell.

Blitz all the way. In fact Daimler Benz was produced the Blitz under license. The L3000 wasn't a real success so the production stoped in 42, the L701 production started in 43.
With the similarities you might do a Blitz with a L701 Einheitsführerhaus ("einheits"-cab). Except that the versions were identical. Otherwise you might add tracks for a Maultier ;)

Much as I'd like to see a model of something like the Morris, I think the starting point should be a GMC 2/12 ton 6x6 and an Opel Blitz.  The GMC could come with both the enclosed and soft top cab, and the Opel could come with both early and late versions of the cab.  I think these would be the most useful models to start with.

As for trucks...

British - Morris
US - GMC 2 1/2 ton 6 x 6 - enclosed & soft top cab
Germany - Open Blitz - early & late cab

Notes taken!

Would trucks (and other utility vehicles) eventually lead to guns/artillery? Or is the latter a bit off the table for now. Not saying I want crew necessarily, but having trucks without guns to tow or make into SP guns is like toast without...marmite or something.

We have big plans and much to do with soft skin vehicles!  Now that our digital sculpting stations are all setup, we are now going through the familiarization process before any serious works are being done for studio production.

...just wait and see!

Now this sounds really exciting!
I certainly would buy a few Opels and GAZs.
Actually I'd love a Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen box as well eventually.
Softskins make great additions on the battlefield :-)

Cheers

Fiat 626

Italian Trucks represent a myriad of options: Italian Army use, SS Use, captured British use, North Africa, Mediterranean and Italian Campaigns.

Many options: Transport, Fuel, Command/Communications, Hospital.

Please consider this.

Seems like we have done the Opel Blitz and the SdKfz 251/1 Ausf D.  The Duece and a Half,  the SdKfz 251/1 Ausf C and the SdKfz 250/1 is on the drawing board, so what is missing??

I could use about six Kübelwagen and two Schwimmwagen.
And a fleet of Soviet trucks 8-)
