Title: Panther F turret
Post by: CFRNelson on April 09, 2016, 12:12:50 am
It  might  be  nice  to add  a spruce to  the  Panther G  Model which  would  have the  turret  for  the Panther F model

Ballardian requested a later set of wheels to go with a the available resin cast turrets.

One could  do  with  the   Panther what  was  done  with  the   T-34 provide  both  an  different  set   of wheels on track  and  the   F  Turret.

Maybe a Panther up grade set .   Would include Steel wheels , F turret , Berge Panther winch compartment , drivers seats and transmission . Sort of a craftsman kit for more experienced builders . Lots of these types of kits in larger scales

The problem can be seen by looking at the sprue layout on the instructions. The wheels occupy parts of two sprues, my assumption is that they are split for technical reasons related to mould filling. The two sprues appear to be common for all three models of Panther.

An Ausf F would require three new sprues, some CAD could be reused.

I'm in agreement with Ripley, an upgrade set would probably be the better solution, not requiring a major re-working of the existing sprues. However, with regards to the existing sprues, a re-working of the tracks themselves would be nice at some point, to include the missing detail on the surface of the track plates.

That would requite Rubicon to invest in slide moulds for the Panther tracks.  It seems to be quite a major revision, judging from the comments in the Sherman thread about improving the tread detail on the Sherman tracks.

Yes, any re-working of the Panther tracks would involve a significant investment in re-tooling of molds, so I certainly wouldn't be expecting them any time soon, since Rubicon have plenty of subjects to contend with before re-visiting any of the existing range (though I can see why the T23/Sherman 76 turret has priority).
