Title: M113A1 APC Drawings Update #3 210214
Post by: Rubicon Models on January 01, 2021, 10:21:56 pm
Our first post for 2021, a brand new project... a plastic M113A1 APC for the Vietnam War and Cold War era!

Just imagine, waking up on the first day of 2021 and saw this on the forum... Happy New Year!!

The M113 was the most widely used armoured vehicle of the US Army in the Vietnam War and was used to break through heavy thickets in the midst of the jungle to attack and overrun enemy positions. It was largely known as an "APC" or an "ACAV" (armoured cavalry assault vehicle) by the allied forces.

Another wonderful model to look forward to.
The Trim Vane should have the arm connected to it to hold it out in the deployed mode.  The piece between the engine hatch and left side light assembly.  I know CAD isn't always dynamic.  In my experience having the Trim Vane deployed for amphibious operations was exceptionally rare, it was most often used as a place to store gear since internally with a squad riding inside this "battle taxi" there wasn't much space.
'Nam style would also include rolls of constantina wire as well as chain link fence set up when dug in to stop RPG attacks.
Then gear.  There has to be a plan for all the potential gear which was piled on this Track when it went to the field.

Again, looking forward to this kit.

Fantastic news ! congrats RM !
M113A1, M577 and M106 will be on my shopping list for sure (3 M113; 1 M577 and 1 M106 for sure) without forgotting 3 HUEYS and 2 or 3 ford MUTT.
As you will make the M106 and the M113 do you intend to make the M901 version too ?
and for going with theses APC by the way will you make a M60 or a M48 ? or why not a M551 sheridan ?

In any cases cases thanks so much for your fantastic job RM.

Nice.

Good comment about the trim vane arm. I suspect that it might need to be in at least two pieces.

No worry, the trim vane arm had two versions - retracted and extended.  The static diagram doesn't have the "extended" arm so cannot use it, that's all.

I hope the M577 and M106 will be in plastic . But by the way for the australian version with the T50 turret i hope rubicon will go further by using it to make an armoured car cadillac gage V100.  :)
Of course the same could be said for the close support turret which  could be used with a saladin armoured car.

This would certainly be a kit I would like to see in plastic. Always been one of my favourite APC's for some reason, very excited by this one.

Simply cannot wait for the ACAV version of the M113 - wonderful choice for a kit.  Should be a treat to deck it out with soldier graffiti and accessories.

Another variant of the M113A1, the M106 Mortar Carrier.  The design includes various configurations, operating and stand-by modes, plus an interior layout different from a standard M113A1 APC.

Here are all the variants we have done so far...

Also looking into doing other variants which included the M132 Zippo, the M163 SPAAG, and the M577 Command. Additional variants might include the FSV and LRV for the ANZAC during the Vietnam War.

As you are doing the V100, I think you have the machine gun turret fitted to Australian M113s.

Think the m163 and m577 are must haves, is there any news on progress or approx timeline before these get released? are we talking of this year or next just trying to plan purchases in advance

A request for Australian M113s with the M74C turret as well as the more well known T50 turret. Lesser known and something of a failure, the M74 turret actually saw as much service as the iconic T50 version. The South Vietnamese also used a few experimentally I believe.

If you do the Aussie FSV you're half way to the Saladin and if you do the Saladin you're half way to the.......... etc.
