This is a civilian Mercedes car kit in military service . I would think if your hauling Brass around a war / partizan area you'ld have a camoed car , probably be shiny black in Paris or Berlin where the Brass want to be wined and dined  and  be noticed . You don't pick up too many girls in a car covered in mud and tree branches no matter how snazzy your Panzer black uniform

Do you have any of the Rubicon figures from their Half Track add on kits , They should be slim enough to fit if you place their chest toward the gun breech , just adjust the head to be sort of looking forward .  You could also just build up a rectanguler shaped box , round both sides of one end ( for  shoulders ) and add a spare head , from a top view  it will look like a crew man . I managed to get a commander in the BA T-34/85 hatch . He's just a couple of short pieces of plastic strip , the top one shorter than the bottom one , giving the  idea of a  shoulder  , than added an arm and head

In your turret the loader would be as far to the rear as possible , that L71 gun had long ammo , you could notch a plastic upper torso so it fits partly over the interior turret race . This thing would have been used as a long range sniper , big hard hitting gun , very light armor a lot like a supersized Hellcat , doing the old shoot and scoot  probably the commander would have been out of the turret  looking for victims ,and places to move the vehicle to set up the next ambush . Have no idea why the pictures show the gun with that high elevation , its an anti tank gun not a howitzer . Of coarse  they could have planned to mount both guns in the vehicle model  like the Nashorn / Hummel

Weird War stuff  ::) ok , sorry I don't really follow the "47" , Dust kind of stuff , so I really couldn't figure out what it was  :-[ . As an open top vehicle ,the Hellcat will be OD green , inside and out , if you paint the crew in  OD uniform  colors the fact that  they are missing limbs shouldn't be noticed . I've added pieces of tubing or a 1/56 scale 45 gallon fuel drum to half figures to give them some substance ,just paint the same color  as the rest of the uniform . You could instead  use the tube on the seated figure and add his legs to the commander . Might be time to order a couple of BA figure sprues to have on hand for kit bashing , or maybe pick up a cheap Tamiya 1/48 figure set .

Yea some pictures show two driver hoods , some only one . Guess the 4 versions were probably 4 different companies prototypes , and from certain angles in the pictures they look alike ( at least to me ) . Wouldn't be surprised if they even swapped turrets around to see what worked best .

A couple of versions made , this one by Ardelt  has  open gun crew area  like a Marder III , gun sight through shield

The turret version was made by Steyr , note gun sight protruding above the turret top and no sight hole in turret front

These turrets are full width of the hull, the kit turret turret is smaller , was there more than one style of turret? There are pictures of few different open gun crew shield  versions , maybe all one off test models ? Maybe the same with the turret version ?

Looking at the pictures in Enc of German Tanks WWII , it doesn't seem to have a roof . I would think that it would have just a tarp over the top . IRC the gun sight was a periscope type  ( like in Stug / Nashorn ) not in the the mantlet  so itw ould need sliding plates to move with the sight if roofed ( like Hetzer ) . Plus how would the crew get in this thing ,? No hatches in turret side or rear  . So its like the Whirbelwind , just  climb over the sides . This is a late last ditch , type of vehicle , tested Apr. 27 - 1945 ?

I found the Vallejo primers are pretty good . And since the guy who started Ammo / Mig  used to work for them , they all should be about  the same . Now sometime stuff needs 2 coats , but the V primer is thin enough so it dosen't fill in small details like some thicker primer do

Just for peace of mind , give everything a cleaning . 99% of the time things really don't need it , it's usually my greasy fingers leaving marks on the plastic / resin . Note to self , wash hands before handling kits  :-[ . But it's that other 1% that will make your hobby time miserable . I've had a Zvezda kit  ( back in the 80s ) that you could actually see the release agent on it , I had to soak in for about a week to get it clean , and  have a resin turret kit that the paint kept peeling off like chunks of orange peel , finally spayed it down with bleach bathroom cleaner , and it needed 3 coats of primer as well . Extremes , but life is so much simpler if it's clean to start with . With resin it depends also  on how the 2 parts were mixed . Having done my own resin casting , depending on how exact I am , the parts can be hard as rock or flexible like Airfix plastics , those ones hit the trash because  paint won't stick

If it's  going to be a late war " 47 " type vehicle , how about borrowing the urban cammo used on the Berlin Chieftains ?

Oh course UN white would look good as well  ;D

Pretty quiet around here this weekend , did everybody go to Salute ? ( lucky b@stards ! )  Just thought I'ld post a few pictures of various figures I've been working on over the last while while waiting for stuff to arrive for some of my other vehicle builds . First off , I grabbed some Empress ( Duh , Black Tree Design figures   :-[ ) metal figures a while back on one of their sales ( Hmm , they seem to have them every week  ::) ) A nice Russian Maxim MG with 2 man crew . The gunners pose needed a little tweaking ( bend with plyers ) and adjust the base to raise the gun a bit to fit his hands , I cast a few extra ammo cans to scatter about the base ,

I also picked up a set of dead Russians and Germans . You get 5 figures in various dead looking poses , some had an arm or leg missing , weather that was on purpose or a miscast I'm not sure . I added the omitted part from the BA parts box as well as a weapon or two . They're not the best figures , but look the part of dead dudes . A couple of the German figures had very heavy flash , so they are on hold till I figure out how to fix them .

T he dead horse was an after thought , really don't know what I'm going to use it for

The Medic and Surrendering figures are pretty good , I added a helmet and canteen to the wounded guy's hand and used green stuff to give the POW long pants , hiding his jack boots , so he could be used as a Panzer crew figure , As he has no personal gear on his belt you can add bits from the BA plastic Germans , he got a pistol holster

The 3rd guy is a BA body with Tamiya 1/48 gas cans , . And for something completely different , I picked up a box of Star Wars Legion Rebels ./ Don't know if I'mg going to go all out and pick up the core box , or even play the game , but the figures were a nice distraction . Not much room for conversions , the arms are attached to the weapons  and have different distances between shoulders and are a plug fit so you can;t really swap them around . But I've added GW ammo pouches and grenades and I've seen a few guys making head swaps . I also picked up a X wing model , because why not , its Star Wars !

The debate over the two color camo has been going on for years  ::) , When clean its easy to see the color variations

But when covered in dust or dirt it all seems to blend together , hard to see in B&W pictures . Supposedly these beasts showed up in two color camo Norway 1940

Wow , very nice . So much potential to go wild with the stowage and weapons load out  ;D

If they did snap of it would be very realistic . most photos show missing ends on well used tracks , just like Sherman Duckbills
